The Campsite

After flying 10,500km, we landed at 4.30am.  It was very smooth going through customs, they were even friendly.  We had the tent taken into quarantine but only for about 15 minutes.  We had to wait until about 6.30 to get the hire car but we got it really efficiently, car was ready, ferry tickets for next week booked and printed for us, and off we went.  We had decided not to stay in Auckland this time, as we have such a limited time here we want to do things we didn't do last time.  So we set off for the Bay of the Islands.  We had to negotiate our way through Auckland traffic which was pretty hair raising, we didn't get lost though and were soon heading out of the city towards Whangarei, and then our destination Paihia.  We both took turns driving as we were both really tired from the flight.  We arrived at our campsite mid afternoon with very windy but very warm weather.  We found a great campsite, camping on the riverbank with waterfalls and palmtrees - it was perfect.

We managed to stay awake until about 8.30pm - not bad considering we had been up since Sunday.
