Yesterday was just spent mooching around Nanaimo, a lazy day reading and strolling along the water front. Up early this morning to get ready for our trip to Victoria. We are looking forward to it, as we've heard lots of good things about Victoria.  The bus journey was quite a short journey by Canadian standards - only about 2 1/2 hours.  We arrived in the city at about 1.30pm.  It was a lot bigger and a lot more like a city than Diane was expecting.  We are staying at Ocean Island Backpackers, as we can have a private room here - sick of weird roommates for the time being!  The hostel is ok, bit basic - but anything would be after staying in the luxury of the Painted Turtle!  It is in quite a cool part of the city, lots of cafes, restaurants and bookshops.  Shortly after booking in we had a wander to the harbour and discovered that there are more homeless people here than in any of the other Canadian cities - we didn't think it was possible.  Every few seconds you are being asked for some spare change.

Pasta was supposed to be on the menu tonight - again - but we decided we couldn't face it so went out for a chinese instead.  The restaurant was nicer than we expected, a bit like restaurants you see in films where the kung fu guy comes flying through the fish tank.  When our meals came they were huge - they don't have small portions here in Canada, so we had lots of leftovers - tomorrows tea!
