Yum Cha for breakfast

China Town

First stop today was China Town, an interesting street that has a low rise, narrow laned historical character.  It has many restaurants offering Yum Cha (otherwise know as dim sums).  After passing a few we decided we would call in for some - apparently it is a popular thing to do on a Sunday.  We were seated in the restaurant and ordered some green tea.  There was no menu just people coming round with trolleys stacked with small bamboo baskets containing a variety of yum cha.  We opted for 3 dumpling dishes, fish cakes and spring rolls.  It was a good experience and we ate some things that we normally wouldn't touch - namely the dumplings -  some of it was a bit suspicious looking though.  It was all edible and the tea was delicious.  We paid the bill and left.  The problem with authentic chinese food is that your imagination can tend to run away with you; after seeing the meat counter at the chinese supermarket in Vancouver, we are both slightly worried about which part of the animal we might be eating.  Mind over matter is what is needed - really there is no difference between eating the large intestine and a piece of leg!

Later we headed to Brunswick Street, Melbournes alternative area.  Yet another interesting street, full of cafes, restaurants, shops and a real mix of people.
