Would we ever get home?!
Well all year, our flights have gone on time, without incident. Mmm.
We set off at 3am Saturday morning. We got on our plane from Cape Town at just after 7am. We flew for four and a half hours up the west coast of Africa. The electrics had been on the blink since we had set off and could not be fixed. So the pilot announced that he would be turning around and going back to Johannesburg. Even Diane later admitted she had been scared! Nine hours after we had left South Africa, we were back in it.
Next followed four hours of queueing in J'burg airport (an absolutely crazy place, hundreds of people, queues everywhere, virtually every flight delayed, chaos) to get our tickets re-issued. We had been due to go to Frankfurt and connect to Manchester from there, but as there were four flights leaving to Heathrow we booked onto one of those. Eighteen hours after we had first set off, we set off again. Eleven, thankfully incident free, hours later and we were back on home soil.
We then got on a smallish bmi plane for the connecting flight to Manchester. The pilot discovered a technical fault, asked an engineer to come and have a look, it couldn't be fixed, so we all had to get off the plane! By this time we were past caring! Onto another plane, and finally, 32 hours after first setting off, we were home.
