Another lazy start to the day, finally out of hostel at 10.30. The weather looked good so we decided to walk up Mont Royal. This is a hill above the city that the locals think is a mountain. Its about 230m high and is covered with 2 square km of woodland. We went the quick way up a wooden purpose built walkway. There is a grand looking building at the top with a huge circular balcony which acted as a view point. The view of Montreal was fantastic - 180 degree view of the city including the St Lawrence River. It was definately worth the huffing and puffing (from Diane) on the way up.
After spending a while up the hill we went back into the city to see if we could get tickets for tonights hockey game.
Back to the hostel for tea and packing as we're heading back to Toronto tomorrow.
Next we were off to the Molsen Centre to watch the game - felt like a proper local!! It was an exciting experience and we soon got with the home crowd to support 'The Habs'!! There's certainly not much sportsmanship when it comes to ice hockey - the crowd boo the away team and the players as they come on the ice. There were a couple of fights, nothing too serious, but they certainly got the crowd going with cheers and boos all round!! It was very entertaining - much better than cricket!! The game itself was good, we could easily become followers - very fast and exciting for all three periods. In the end Montreal lost, 3-1 was the final score. Not a good result for our new team!! It is worth pointing out that we decided to have a beer at one of the intervals - the cost of which was $9.25 (about 4.50 pounds) - half our daily budget!!
