Well we were much cooler during the night, but still had a disturbed night's sleep due to the hostel manager arriving at 1.30am to evict one of the people who was staying!
Today was a day of jobs, booking our accomodation and transport tickets for tomorrow's journey to Mildura. The cricket was on too so we ended up watching that. England versus New Zealand for a place in the final against Australia. The two German lads who were staying at the hostel came and sat in the lounge with us while we were watching the match. They seemed very perplexed as they watched it, trying to work out what was happening. They were also puzzled as to why the matches lasted so long, amazed when Emma told them that some matches lasted five days.
Continuing on the theme of cricket, we read a Bill Bryson book recently who also commented on the Australian obsession that is cricket. He observed that compared to the other sports that Australians usually engage in (macho sports such as Aussie Rules Football, where they regularly engage in violent acts which the ref allows), cricket is quite a genteel gentlemanly sport. He reckoned that if the rest of the world stopped playing and it was just left to the Australians, within 20 years they would all be wearing shorts and hitting each other with the bat!
