Soaking up the Laos Atmosphere

We spent the weekend soaking up the atmosphere of Luang Prabang. Saturday morning we changed guest houses for a better room. We were at Le Tam Tam but the room we were in was quite small and didn't have any natural light so we decided to have a change. We moved a little further down the street and onto a quiet lane to Silichith Guest House where we got into a much more pleasant room. We spent Saturday wandering around.
Sunday we were up early in order to walk up the big hill in the centre of town. It supposedly has great views of the town and has a temple up on the top. We walked half way up, then had to pay to go the rest of the way. There seems to be a thing going on in Laos at the moment where they charge you for anything and everything, crossing a bridge, walking up a hill - I'm sure there will be more things to come! Anyway we paid the money, got to the top and couldn't see any of the view.
After breakfast we hired a couple of stunning pink bikes and had further explorations of the city - cycling alongside both rivers. We stopped for a coffee and cake at a bakery in town before getting fleeced by La Poste. It cost us an arm and a leg to send a small box home - and Laos is supposed to be one of the cheapest countries in the world! For tea we gave in to cravings of western food and had pizza and chips for tea.
