Last day in Asia

Today was our last day in this continent as tonight we head to Changi airport and fly to South Africa.  After being woken up early with two German girls chatting away in our dorm, we packed up and checked out of the hostel.  We had a little wander around Little India and then got on the super efficient MRT to Clarkes Quay.  It has really changed since we were last here about 4 years ago.  All covered over with giant umbrellas and everything has been painted multi coloured.  We thought it was quite cool last time but obviously that was too 'rustic' for Singapore, so they had to modernise!  We carried on around to Boat Quay where we had some lunch.  No wonder we thought Singapore was expensive.  It cost s$10.50 for a beer.  In Little India where we have been staying it costs s$4.00, now thats a massive difference!

We headed back to Little India late afternoon and had further explorations.  It's a great little area that seems to get more lively as the day goes on.  We stumbled across a little market area where there were stalls selling all kinds of souveniers and gifts.  We think you could walk in one door and come out another looking Indian, people are offering you all kinds of things - henna tattoos, jewellry, saris, bangles and shoes.  It was fantastic.

So we are now at Changi airport and killing time until we have to board.  We are still impressed with this airport, even though it is now a good few years old.  There is plenty to occupy you for hours, including this free internet - what a wonderful idea!  So the next entry will be from South Africa tomorrow, after a very long flight.

Visit Clarkes Quay area, its great at night when the bars are all open - its really lively, some places have live music and the whole area has a really buzzing atmosphere. It is however quite expensive, about 3 times as expensive of say Little India.

Just down the river from Clarke Quay is Boat Quay, a long line of bars and restaurants. We only visited there during the day and it was very quiet but i am sure it must get busy at night to warrant the amount of restaurants.

China Town is also worth a visit. When we were there it was just before chinese new year so it had a very bustling feel to it. Lots of interesting shops and stalls, noodle bars, restaraunts and temples, and pretty much everything you get in China Towns around the world. Watch out for the big groups of people line dancing!
