Journey to Melbourne

We got up at 5am this morning. We reluctantly left Narooma YHA - it was an excellent hostel and we had grown quite attached to our room - an en suite for $60 was a true bargain! It was good being up and about just as the sun was rising, it is a shame it's too hard to do it more often.
Not much to say about the journey apart from that we saw the land turning from green to brown as we crossed into the state of Victoria. This is where all the bush fires have been this year. We passed lots of dried up river beds, more evidence of the drought that Australia is suffering, the worst in its history.
We got into Melbourne late afternoon and got onto a tram up to our hostel. Staying at the YHA until Saturday.
It is daunting and exciting at the same time when you arrive in a new city. We stepped out of the train station into hundreds of people in rush hour mode. Our initial impressions of Melbourne were good - trams, tree lined streets, pavement cafes, churches and the usual high rises. It has a much more European feel than the other cities we have been to.
