Hello Africa

Well it feels quite amazing to have landed in such a special continent.

After a fairly good flight, we landed in Cape Town and were collected and taken to our hostel.   The first thing we noticed was the temperature as we got off the plane and walked along the tarmac.  We have just gone from a very humid 35 degrees to a wet and windy 12 degrees.

As we set off from the airport, we noticed a rainbow - a very appropriate start to our trip in what is known as the 'Rainbow Nation.'  Even though we have seen a lot of poverty in Asia over the last few months, it still came as a shock to see the shanty areas near to the airport -  'houses' no bigger than an average garden shed, with tin roofs or plastic sheeting thrown over - made all the more shocking by the abundance of top of the range cars passing us driven of course mostly by white people.

We met up with one of our friends from back home, Anne, who will be spending the next two or three weeks with us, and caught up on all the news.
