Fruit

In the garden alongside the Murray River

Yesterday we made the journey from Bendigo to Mildura, passing hundreds of kilometres of grapevines and fruit trees.  We booked into a hostel that was brand new and spotlessly clean and so have decided to stay here for the next week as we got a good deal on our rent.  Last night we had our tea out for the cheapest meal so far on our travels, a backpacker special $5 (2 pounds) per meal.

Today we have just had a bit of an explore of Mildura.  It is a pretty standard town really, not much to do apart from activities on the great Murray River and sampling the wares of the local vineyards, but we are trying not to do this as are now on a strict budget after Melbourne!  In our favour you do need a car to get to most places around here.  On the journey here yesterday we were suprised to see quite a few backpackers on the train with us (we have been off the backpacker trail for quite some time) then we realised that lots of backpackers come here to get work fruit picking.
