It was a very traumatic start to the trip saying goodbye to our families at the airport. It felt like we were leaving forever, although a year does feel like forever at the moment. At the moment it is very difficult to imagine and comprehend the length of time we are going to be away. It still feels like we have come away for a fortnights holiday. We boarded the plane just after 11.30, Emma fortified by a swift triple brandy. The flight was relatively uneventful although Emma still managed to be traumatised - there were many sighs, huffs, puffs and panics coming from the window seat!! Landed at 19.40 (GMT), 14.40 Canadian time. As British people we obviously posed a great threat to national security as it must have taken about 45 minutes to get through customs. We collected our rucksacks all present and correct, but got a little worried when the sniffer dog lingered about our luggage longer than expected and its handler asked it 'what you got there boy'!!!!! We arrived at our B&B after a bus and subway journey. The B&B is quite 'olde worlde' with a wooden veranda, we have got the attic room - it is very nice. We quickly grabbed some food and had early night as pretty tired from the days events.
