We left Hoi An yesterday and got the train from Danang to Saigon. The train pulled up and looked old, dirty and ricketty from the outside, but our hard sleeper cabin wasn't too bad. We had tried to book a soft bed but they were all booked up so decided to do it Vietnamese style, 6 in a cabin on beds that are just marginally better that plain wood! We were joined in our cabin by 4 Vietnamese people, only one of whom spoke a bit of English. It was very cosy though, later in the evening we were "served" our evening meal. We were just glad we had each brought a bagette along for tea.
We managed to get a few hours sleep but the beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows were about as fluffy as a piece of A4 paper. We arrived into Saigon around lunchtime and jumped into a taxi to the hotel - The Bi Saigon. The room we have is tastefully decorated, with a huge artificial tree in the middle. After booking in we quickly headed to the hotel restaurant for some food. We had yet another great meal. Vietnamese food is supassing already high expectations.
In the evening we got in a taxi to the Caravell Hotel in central Saigon and headed upstairs to Saigon, Saigon bar. On the 9th floor of a very posh hotel, the bar has fantastic views over the city. We ate at an Italian not far from the hotel called 'Good Morning Vietnam.'
