some southern hospitality!

Atlanta Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Ok so it's not some exotic far off land but, this is some of the most amazing scenery I have ever seen. Here in our very own backyard! Some of these places are nothing more than a town to pass by on the way to a more exciting place for most people. However I see much beauty in these places, to me these are the heart and soul of America.

some southern hospitality!

Ok first and foremost before I even tell you about our day there I just want to say there is such a thing as southern hospitality!  We arrived in Atlanta at about 3:30 in the afternoon the first thing I asked my husband was to drive to the state capitol building so that I could get a picture.  While there just on the street not even looking "lost" or anything we had three different peole stop and ask, "do you need help finding something?"  WOW!  We obviously looked like tourist (I think the camera in my hand gave it away!)  However I've not been in any state where people just randomly offer you help!  Most places you ask for help and people are usually willing to help out ya know?  Anyways, I was impressed!

Onto the story!  I have to say that if plans worked out half the time, I would make them more often!  Originally we were supposed to go to Atlanta early Saturday morning and spend the weekend, drive back to Montgomery in the evening Sunday!  Those were my plans anyway!  My husband could not spend the weekend however, he had to be in Montogomery pretty much all of Sunday his flight needed to get together for "something" and practise "something" for the really important "something" that was to be on Monday!  I had a really cool itinerary that I put together with the help of my travbuddy, Brett.

all for you Brett! (since you haven't been :D)
No problem, we don't have to do the Sunday thing which was a visit to a state park.  We will just follow the Saturday itnerary!  HA!  Well you can tell we did not get such an early start by the time of our arrival at 3:30pm.  Onto plan B let's just do wathever!  After the obligatory state capitol shot we drove down to the aquarium, which is still in downtown Atlanta this is also where the world of coca-cola was.  We spent the rest of the time in the aquarium however and since they both closed at the same time we did not see the coca-cola place, which was ok because that was not part of the itineray anyway!

The aquarium was composed of four different sections they had the tropical reef barrier immediatly to the right, this one had all the tropical colorful fish and reef sharks in it.

The second, area was called the deep ocean voyage, where they had the whale sharks, hammerheads, stingrays, and some huge fish, this part was especially neat because when you first walked in the aquarium was built in the shape of a tunnel so you were just surrounded by the animals.  The pics below of all the sharks were taken overhead.  After the tunnel you walked into a great big room where the aquarim was one giant wall.  Then we went into the tropical river aquarium this one had the big catfish, piranha's, alligators, and other river animals.  This section also had the beluga whale, the penguins, and seals I'm not sure why but that is where they had them.  We did not get to see the final section the aquarium was closing but it had to do with local river life, I think!  We left the aquarim and by this time we were starving our next stop was going to be the peach tree towers so we chose jalapeno charlies because it was right across the street from them.
prom night in Atlanta!
The food was ok but, nothing to write home about (so there is my review, lol!)  There was a bit of a wait line because it was prom night in Atlanta, and therefore lots of big groups of teens in their prom dresses and tuxedos, too cute!  The best part about this restaurant is that it was on the second floor and we were lucky to get an outside balcony table, the views were great.  Done with dinner we walked over to the tower (Brett had mentioned there was a great view from the top) and they close the top at 8pm?!  So, we opted for a carriage ride around the town instead long story short we were on the road by 8:30pm back to Montgomery :('

Hey Joan- I'm glad you liked the aquarium- it looks like it would be really cool. I'm puzzled about the tower being closed- I think the restaurant on top is open late-- till 11 or 12. Anyway, hopefully the people in Atlanta drove fast enough for you :)
