oh we should've turned right but, we din't!
November 24, 2007
Leaving Big Bend, theres a 70 mile trek of road that takes you right up to the town of Marathon, TX. When you get there there's a stop sign before you turn onto US HWY 90. Now had we turned right we would've been on our way back home and beaten the storm! However to the left, only 23 miles away was the town of Alpine. Soooo, we were at the stop sign and I say, to my husband "let's go to Alpine, it's only 23 miles out of the way!" Now my husband is a smart man and you could tell that even though he din't think going to Alpine was such a good idea he wasen't about to try and talk me out of it! So, off we went to the left and well before we even got there the snow started coming down harder and harder.
We arrived at Alpine with snow covering the ground already and boy was it ever chilly but I decided I wanted a picture of a cactus with snow on it. So our first little adventure driving around the town looking for a snow covered cactus landed me with about 20 pics of cactuses but on the upside my husband found the car of his dreams while driving around too bad it was way out of our price range! Afterward we stopped and ate lunch at the only restaurant we could find open not very good really they forgot one main ingredient in all their food, FLAVOR! It was then time to head back by the time we left the restaurant there was tons of snow everywhere so my family decided to have a snowball fight in the middle of the street! Really you'd think they had never seen snow!
