enchanted rock
what was I saying in the previous entry about long trails? diregard that for this entry!
Well, what can I say about enchanted rock? It's a BIG rock! Really I've been racking my brain to make this blog sound cool, but in the end enchanted rock is merely a big rock and nothing more! Yet 100's of people were there on Saturday climbing it, and it is like that every weekend. The line of cars waiting to get in was unbelieveable. It kind of goes along the lines of standing for an hour at an amusement park to get a 2 minute ride (except this was more like a 2 hour hike!) Why do people do that? Why did I do that? I guess it's because at the end of the ride the thrill and exciment still lingers and the memory of doing it and how you felt afterwards lasts forever! Same sensation with enchanted rock I will always remember that little high I got just at reaching the top and if anyone ever mentions it, it will always bring back that memory! I am so glad I got to do it and most especially because I shared that with my family.
Enchanted rock is about 15 miles or so outside of Fredericksburg, TX. If climbing a big rock is not your thing however, don't let that dissuade you from visiting Fredericksburg. This town is enchanting on it's own! Founded by German immigrants, it still has a strong German flair to this day. This town is lined with awesome little shops and restaurants throughout the main drag. Besides the fact that it is in one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Texas, it is also in the heart of wine country.
This place is my dream retirement town some day (sigh!)
