Ute Lake

New Mexico Travel Blog › entry 1 of 25 › view all entries

Ok so it's not some exotic far off land but, this is some of the most amazing scenery I have ever seen. Here in our very own backyard! Some of these places are nothing more than a town to pass by on the way to a more exciting place for most people. However I see much beauty in these places, to me these are the heart and soul of America.

Our family has a tradition of an annual camping trip.  This particular trip was planned by my sisiter-in-law the location,Ute lake, in New Mexico, was chosen due to it's midway point.  Normally I'm all for camping, I love it!  This particular year though I had a 4 month old baby.  Boating for hours with a baby was out of the question and the campsite due to lack of trees was hot as hell.  Around the time that everyone started feeling like they were at the beach, because they were getting plenty of "crab" out of me, my in-laws decided to go antiquing in the nearby towns and asked if I would care to join them.  So, mom, pops, me, and baby in tote went on a shopping excursion.  Here are some of the pictures I took in these almost ghost towns, talk about a blast from the past!  I thought they were interesting.

I am not saying travel to these places, all I'm saying is that sometimes it's cool to take the scenic route versus the interstate.  We did that on the way there and back, as well as going into all the little towns while camping.  It took longer, but I ended up with some cool photos because of it.

I love taking the 'side' roads and getting off the highways, you never know what you're going to discover. I love the cloud shots.
