A trip to Szczawnica
July 14, 2007
My friend came from London on Friday and visited me in Opole on Saturday. While sitting in a restaurant and talking we came across this totally awesome idea...why don't we go to the mountains today. Well, I am a kind of person that only needs to hear such things once. So we got in my car and took a 350 km drive to our friend who lives near Pieniny Mountains. From a window in her house there is a view on a lake called CzorsztyĆskie Lake. On two opposite sides of this lake there are castles...one is ruined - the Castle in Czorsztyn. When you are already in the castle and you turn your face towards the lake you can see the other castle - stunning view. The Castle in Niedzica is in quite a good shape, there is a restaurant and a hotel inside.
You can also take a tour in the castles museum, very nice. Anyway, lets get back to my trip, hehe. So we got to Maniowy really late and went to sleep. The next day after breakfast we headed for Szczawnica where we started our walk through Homole Valey. It is a very nice walk (the green path and then a blue one along the Polish - Slovakian border) ...there is only one short part where the climb is steep and you have to be careful, but hmm...we did meet some bikers on our way;). When you get to the blue path and you keep walking you will get to see the Three Coronas peak. You can go further...it is a three hour walk to a mountain lodge or take a shortcut through a meadow, like we did;) to get back to a car park and go to Szczawnica...we were really hungry, okay:P. We had food in a lovely reastaurant called Cat's Castle (Koci Zamek), they have really good local food....and the scenery is beautiful.Create a free TravBuddy account or login to leave comments, meet travelers, and share experiences with the TravBuddy travel community.
