Miraflor Nature Reserve

We took a bus from Granada to Esteli and stayed the night prior to catching another bus to the Miraflor reserve. We had to change buses in Managua so we got to see what the capital is like. The city is sprawling and much newer looking than I imagined (didnt see any sign of a shanti town but we may have only seen the good parts). Esteli is the largest city in the north of nicaragua (not a lot of attractions but I was dissapointed to miss the cock fighting on saturday and sunday).
Miraflor is a private reserve which has a mix of cload, intermediate, and dryland forests. We stayed on a coffee / banana farm that provided room and board. The farm was quite rustic (see photos) but very nice.
We enjoyed the fireflies at night (breathtaking), however, the other bugs were a nusiance and large enough to make us pull out the hooded jackets. Note, the flash of the camera makes my jacket look much more disco tech than it actually is.
We hired a tour guide for a day who walked us through a small part of the reserve. The tour was good but very basic and would have been better with some transportation (i´m lazy and the area is too big to see by foot). We were on the hunt for Toucan Sam but were not able to make a visable sighting.
