the ferry ride! and berkeley pride!
one of the most fun activities that we did in amsterdam was to take a six-hour bike trip sponsored by "Yellow Bike Tours". The ride was not as excruciating as it seems, simply because the land was pretty flat almost the entire way. Bike-riding through the city was the most hazardous part of the journey, simply because of the cars and pedestrians. The bikes are also somewhat difficult to control, but the best part about the journey were the Dutch pancakes that we had at the 3 hour mark (i.e. for lunch). The Dutch eat both salty and sweet pancakes (almost like the salty and sweet crepes that you can get in france), and they pour syrup over EVERYTHING. it was great! the variety is unbelievable, and delicious! During the bike ride, we saw dikes and damsa, hillsides, and cows. MILES of cows. The sky was blue, the water was crystal clear, and the entire experience is one that is not to be missed. We traveled through the fields at one point, and had to cross small rivers on this footbridge (with our bikes!)...i don't know what was worse, trying to get your bike onto the rail, or trying to get it off it without falling on your face! however, we all laughed at each other's attempts, and at ourselves too...the last part of the trip includes a small ferry ride across one of their more major lakes, a nice relaxing experience, polished off by some cold beer at a seaside restaurant.
