Koi and I camp. The entrance, looking out to the sea, literally a stone's throw away. The boat at the edge belongs to Elena and Eugene the Bulgarians who were very friendly and took care of me.

After passing many interesting Greek ruins along the main coastal road towards Kavala,we had chosen last night to go back to a quiet, relaxed island where we'd holiday'd a few years before.Thassos a ferry ride from Kavala.

When we got to Thassos we started to drive around the island to find a camp spot. Wild camping was not allowed, so, we found a campsite. But it was closed.

Seeing the broken gate I decided to climb in and look for someone to ask permission to stay the night. No-one around. I opened the gate for Tim to drive on in and we pitched after making a brew.

Then someone came. A young man with glasses and a little dog with broken leg (in good health!). He was 'Costas' and said he'd ask the owner if it was ok but shouldn't see a problem.Costas had very good English and was quiet spoken. Then another man came,'Jimmy' the manager and all-round worker at the campsite. He was very good natured and helpful. Then another man came-reminiscent of William Baldwin with amazing hypnotic blue eyes and a grizzly beard which made him imposing but mysterious. This was Vasilis the Director of the Campsite. He didn't really speak with us,but gave us permission to stay for a couple of days...who'd have known I was never to leave
