Killer Hamster Camp

Ankara Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Tracy Eldred and Tim Hobin from England travel with their Thai Ridgeback dog 'Koi'. Taking a land route in a Toyota Hilux Surf truck East to Nepal,& flying to Thailand. The return leg countries will depend on social and political climate. Learning many lessons of life!

Killer Hamster Camp

Well we set up camp in what looked like a small converge of two small hills in the quiet outskirts of Ankara

It was dusky and whilst Tim made a brew of tea  whilst I sewed Koi's coat up for a snugger fit

I started to notice movement along the ground

I watched

No not prarie dogs - HAMSTERS!!! Little grey hamsters- Wild Hamsters!

We bedded down for the night in the tent with our quilt and blanket ontop of our sleeping bags - ready for another cold night as the water has been frozen the past few nights

Suddenly at 0500hrs - there they were - sniffing around the tent - galloping feet were heard - then they made there noise - loud-deep barking amongst snarling growls - we could hear them breathing they were so close!

We were infact - surrounded by four of the local shepherd dogs *reputed to stand at waist height!

Glad the hamsters hadn't metamorphosised into these large aggressive beasties!

We of course escaped unharmed after about two hours of being frozen in pose and not making a squeak whilst the dogs persisted-the landowner called them off-or they got bored-or both!

Have fun in the sun there in England!!

Love Tracy Tim and Koisy  x x x
