A beach day!

This morning we wondered if the double room we had was worth it - it had been really noisy with the air-con the night before, but checking the prices, we were only paying an extra $3 each ($60 for the double a night, vs. $27 per person per night for the dorm) so for a little bit of privacy we stuck it out, we weren't in the room much anyway!

So far I must seem pretty lazy - this was a relatively stress free trip, but energy had to be conserved for the next few stages, which involved Fraser Island, the Whitsunday Island and an as yet undecided white water rafting trip. Therefore today was a beach day, watching the world (and two huge lizards) go by, and laughing at people coming close to drowning during surf lessons, something I didn't undertake.

A pleasant day was had by all, especially when a brilliant ice cream shop was found on the town's Hastings Street. You could pile on your own toppings, and one little boy managed to perch so much whipped cream on his he could barely see over it - it promptly slid off though, when he left the air conditioned shop and the sun touched it. We got some chicken and rice for dinner, made use of the kitchen, watched a film in the lounge and chatted with some of the other residents before heading for bed.
