I have three words for today. DOLPHINS, DOLPHINS, DOLPHINS! On the way back to Miami from Key West, we stopped at the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key. It was a pretty small place, but totally worth the stop. They do research on the communications and learning with dolphins, and allow you to tour and meet the dolphins. Andy and I were not able to get in to swim with them, we didn’t think to call and get reservations, but we did get to do a program where we played with the dolphins. They took us into one of the enclosures, and we got to play basketball with the dolphins, shake fins, give back rubs, dance, etc. with them. It was really cool. They are smart, and remind me of toddlers (I feel the same way about dogs too!). They brought us “presents” (I got seaweed! Andy got some algae) and wanted to talk to us and show off for us. They are very curious. Many times not only in this enclosure but in the others they would just sit and watch us pass by. If they wanted you to stop, they would yell at you. They also liked it when you talked to them and waved. They would usually get them to do a trick. I would totally suggest this place.
