Only just arrived ad already love it here. I think it´s the people that make a place at the end of the day and we are staying at the Plantation House ' a beautiful setting and used to be a plantation house. It´s really quiet at the moment but makes all that bit nicer and the owner is fantastic and gave us a wee tour of the properties as they have another one down the road, and their house is just up the road also.

We took the 6.30am bus from Medellin this morning, reaching the entrance to Salento at about 12 noon. The bus driver told us we could get a taxi or bus from here into the town as it is still another 9km away. We didn´t see any taxis and the buses wouldn´t pick us up because they were so full so we started walking down to Salento.
Luckily a guy stopped and picked us up which was really nice - and risky, but hey it was 9km with heavy backpacks!! He spoke no English, we speak barely any Spanish but we ended up having a conversation about where we were from, where we have been in Colombia and how long. He dropped us off pretty much at the door of the Plantation House and politely refused to take the $3,000 COP we offered. Really nice guy, pity we didn´t catch his name when he introduced himself though.

We walked into the center of town, a really nice plaza with brightly coloured buildings and lots of artisans shops. Nathan spied lollies from home so in he went! We then spotted the 2 Israilis we had met on the Lost City trek and had a wee catch up. It´s amazing the amount of travellers you meet on the way and then see them again at some stage, it is happening at least once a week now.

We had a nice lunch-dinner at a restaurante in the plaza called ´Somy´, huge bit of chicken, salad, rice, bread and drink all for about $7NZD each. We then walked up the steps for a view of Salento which was our exercise for the day!

We have pretty much been lazing at the guesthouse this evening, nice people to chat to and Tim, the owner introduced us to his 3 Collies and his 6 Collie pups at his house, which has one hell of a nice view!
Could stay here longer, but will see what happens!
