Hidden in the end of the Baltic Sea is one of the great cities of the world. A new city just over 300 hundred years old but still a city filled with all sorts of history from the days of the zar to revolution. On every corner is an palace or major church just waiting to impress you. This is combined with the Stalinist gigantism. Put in some of the greatest art collections in the world and you have what could be the biggest tourist trap in Europe - but Russian visa restrictions prevent this.

Castles and monasteries

Romania is a country in the southeast Europe where wars have been fought during the centuries. This has led to the building of several fairytale like castle and some unique painted monasteries to be found nowhere else. Travelling through the country will put your patience on a test - trains are extremely slow and the roads not much faster because you will constantly have to overtake one horse drawn cart after the other. But few tourist goes there so you will have most of it to yourself.

Libya is full of world class historical sights from ancient cave paintings to roman ruins. The dessert scenery is outstanding and virtually without tourist. But most importantly are the people who will always give a hand if they can and generally want to help you to get a better stay in Libya.

Going through the Middle East in july is a steaming hot experience. But it also includes some of the most spectacular ancient ruins it the world and stunning desert landscapes all aroud. It gives you hackling in Egypt and some suprisingly friendly people in Syria.

Staying in Ruhegeri during a chuch election means a lot of drums playing all the time. But going out for the gorilla hike makes it unik. Then falling asleep New Years Eve in a African nightclub just ads a little twist to the whole day.
