This is a nice 1 or 2 day hike in the Coromandel Peninsula of New Zealand. It takes about 2-3 hours to get to the hut and then another 30 minutes or so to get to the top of the Pinnacles. Overall the starting point to finish point could take around 5-6 hours but it is nice to break up the hike with an overnight stay in the hut. The hut was very nice and had 80 bunks, bathrooms, and a large kitchen area with plenty of kitchen utensils so you do not have to worry about bringing them. At night the warden gives a slideshow presentation on the history of the track if you care to listen.

The hike is not too strenuous other than a couple of steep areas. From the hut to the top of the Pinnacles gets a bit dodgy and steep at parts and I would not recommend it for people who are very afraid of heights! Also, make sure to get to the top atleast 30 minutes before the sun sets because you do not want to get stuck walking down it in the dark like we did! You get an amzing view of what looks like the entire Coromandel Peninsula from side to side at the top.

I think you can pay the hut fee of $15-20 NZD at the hut or maybe if you register with the DOC beforehand.
