Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands, found in the Atlantic Ocean off the north-west coast of Africa. It is the biggest Island of the island group. The central part of Tenerife is dominated by a 3700 m high volcano called Pico del Teide. This is the highest mountain of Spain, and is accessible by cable car. It has large banana and tomato plantations, with many very good and cheap restaurants, especially as the island is mainly duty-free.
The capital of Tenerife is Santa Cruz, which has a large port an many interesting buildings. Popular touristareas are Playa de las Americas, Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Puerto de la Cruz. The south part of Tenerife is very popular because of the weather, and is known as "The Land of Eternal Spring". Here you will find a lot of nice hotels with big gardens, a lot of shops, restaurants and bars. If you want you can stay out till early in the morning. There is also a water park and golf courses, and a wild-life park "Las Aguilas del Teide" with a spectacular free-flying display by wild birds of prey. On the west side it is much greener, with fertile valleys and old towns, especially La Orotava, and Puerto de la Cruz. There is a very big animal park: Loro Parc, where there are a lot of different animals like birds, tigers, gorilla’s and a killer-whale and dolphin show.
In general the beaches because of the volcanic landscape, are black with rocks and pebble Stone, though usually safe and clean. Good for relaxing.
