I have been to Rio many times, and even though I am from Brazil, I am a tourist as well in Rio since I have never lived there. Rio is a fascinating city with lots and lots to do.
Here are my recommendations:
1) Stay at Barra or Leblon or Ipanema. Copacabana is a tourist trap with many shady char…

This is the cutest store ever!
Little objects that you can use to decorate anywhere.
I´m a big fan of brazilian culture, so I had to pick up a few of their stuffs, which shows Brazil all over them.
And its not like the others typical stores you can find at any corner. Brazil e cia is for sure…

Do you really want to see Rio's best things?
Put on some confortable shows and walk!!!
Wait, wait! You're not going to walk all the way from Copa to Lapa, of course! But I mean, going by bus, taxi or subway, once you get in some new neighborhood, take a walk around.
In Copa? Don't restric yo…

Besides Rio you MUST go to Angra dos Reis (lot's of little islands by boat), Buzios (small hip beach city) and Petropolis (historical mountain city).
Also, a great visit is Ouro Preto, a 18th century city that was preserved that way with cobblestone streets. Parati is another one.
For big nigh…

What a terrific find. Canyon Lake is so beautiful — the only park we've ever stayed at with their own private island on their own large private lake. We really enjoyed strolling out to relax under the gazebo on the island, and paddling around in the resort's *free* paddle boats. Plus, the (Texas-s…

One of the golden securty rules of Rio is never go by yourself to a favela, specially at night... Well, The Maze in is the place to break it! This amazing art gallery and bar (and also a B&B) is hidden on a calm favela in Catete, at the south zone of Rio. Every first friday of the month, this place …

The World Buffet at the Rio is a lot cheaper than most other buffets (I think it was only $22 a person for lunch), and while the food is not incredible, it is definitely above average, and there is a wide selection.

Rio de Janeiro is more than just party 24/7, which is true. You don’t want to leave Rio without watching the sunset from up above. The Sugar Loaf is the best sight. Not only is it worth the ride in the cable car, but having a drink at the top after a busy day is also just perfect. There are two hills you can ride up. The first is Morro da Urca (735 feet / …
