Since we were in the Cinque Terre a little earlier than the start of the main "tourist season", we were able to get accomodation from La Dolce Vita with no hassle at all. Simone, one of the managers, chatted with us for half an hour in both Italian and English. One of the most charming and memorab…

If you are planning on staying downtown in Chattanooga, I would recommend avoiding the hotels along I-24. It is a very poor part of town and there is a higher risk of trouble. The best downtown places to stay is at the Trade and Convention Center or down near the aquarium.

My husband and I stated at the Hotel Mariel in Miraflores during our trip to Peru in Nov 2008. We found the rooms to be large and very comfortable (we stayed in an executive room with cable, a/c and minibar), the neighborhood quiet, the hotel security top notch, the staff service gracious and welcom…

I've been to Vienna a few times, and my favorite place to stay is the Pension Kraml. It is located near the Mariahilferstrasse, a major shopping street in the center of town, and near 2 metro stations. The street itself is quiet. The pension has large comfortable rooms, with high ceilings, and a nic…

When you arrive at the bus station you will encounter many old women with signs for rooms (zimmer/soba). If you know a little Bosnian you can argue the price down quite a bit. I was able to get a room for three for 15 Euro a night and once my host realized I could understand Bosnian she become ver…

I haven't stayed at hostels too often. I usually try and stay at pensions with a buddy. But this was my second European sojourn of the year and I was travelling alone, so I had to go cheap. The Sleepzone in Galway fit the bill. I got my own room, which was important. I'm too old to be sharing a room…
