I went to Israel with a tour group. Everything was paid for except souveniers. It was the best ten days of my life. We covered practically the entire country. We flew directly from Atlanta to Tel Aviv, then on to Tiberias and Jerusalem. We took a bus all over the country, and it was the nicest bus I…

Our private tour (you must call ahead or stop by in the morning for reservations) took us beneath the Western Wall to the original paths walked by pilgrims thousands of year ago. It is simply breath-taking to see the original carved stones of Herod's temple, all marked with his unique "frame"! I s…

I found the Mount Zion Hotel to be a spectacular accommodation while in Israel. A casual walk from the Holy City by way of Gehenna, its gift shop is well-stocked and reasonable, while its café is excellent--especially the view! There's also a very nice synagogue which holds sabbath services for t…

My husband and I stayed at Inbal for our wedding anniversary. We spent the extra money for an Executive Room, which was well worth it! The room was huge with 2 bathrooms and the bedroom separate from the living room. With the Executive Room comes free use of the Executive Lounge, which offers compli…

I've visited the Holy Sepulchre many times during my stay in Jerusalem during 1999-2000 and again in 2004. It's in the Old City and there are signs that will point you to its location, although mostly if you're coming from the Christian Quarter.
The Holy Sepulchre is believed to be the place wher…

This is by far the most fascinating stop I made in the Old City. On display here travelers can find priestly garments and implements made in preparation for the third Temple. A giant golden Menorah is also on display nearby in the Cardo. Scale models, an excellent gift-shop, and first rate videos…

There are 4 quarters in Jerusalem. While walking in the Armenian, Christian and Jewish quarters, we noticed that the streets were so clean and shinny. However, when we get to the Muslim quarter, it was so dirty and laud in the streets and so crowded.
We couldn't get the reason of this situation. Wa…

While staying in the Jaffa Hostel, I made a point of stopping by Henry's Café every morning for some apple juice and a Danish. Small, but well-stocked, I found the employees to be helpful and gracious--and the Danishes were good, too! I last had breakfast at Henry's Café in March, 2005.

I stopped by the Alexander Café one night while staying in the Mount Zion and found it to be a great spot for a quick drink and comfortable company. Pleasantly lit, and with wonderful service, I came away very happy with my evening. I came in for a coke in May, 2002.

From Czarist troops to Mark Twain, this hostel just inside the Jaffa Gate has seen its share of interesting guests over the many years! I found it to be an incredible deal (we stayed over Easter week for only $60--total)! Located at the entrance to the Arab Shouk, Old Jaffa Hostel is only a five-m…

This family-owned boutique hotel is at a prime location in Jerusalem - literally down the street from the open market and Ben Yehuda; also, for those without heavy luggage, an easy walk from the central bus station and to the old city.
There is a small, two-person balcony off the lobby decorated wi…
