This is a great KOA (Kampgrounds of America) site! It has something for everyone. You can pitch a tent, rent a 1-room cabin (or "kabin"), rent a 2-room kabin, rent a deluxe kabin inclusive of a kitchen and bathroom, or plug up your RV. You can pitch your tent close to the pool, camp store, and pa…

Eco Park Resort and campground is a private campground located near the entrance of Mt. St. Helens and is the closest place to stay near the volcano. They have campsites, yurts, RV sites and cabins, all for a pretty reasonable price. I was there "off-season" so it was pretty quiet and I had no pro…

McCloud RV Resort sits at the base of spectacular Mount Shasta, adjacent to Shasta-Trinity National Forest. There is world-class Trout & Steelhead fishing r…

OK, I've put "average" as the price because although it is $65 a night, that does include stuff like all meals, equipment hire (kayaks, snorkels, etc) and transfers. Plus, it is expensive for budget travellers, but not for holiday makers. In fact, at that price, the place is a bargain.
The acc…

Up front let me admit that I'm not the biggest camper. About once a year I like to go for about 2 or 3 nights at the most. But Inks Lake State Park in the Hill Country of Texas may cause me to become a bigger camper.
The views are spectacular, the lake is usually not too busy. The trails are…

I live in the city and was looking to get away for the weekend, so I ended up at Greenbelt Park. I think you can take public transportation there, but it is a good idea if you have a car/bike. It was $17/night and you get to pick your own site; some were nestled away and others were more in the op…

This little city park has 30 camping sites for tents and RVs. It is first come, first serve and there are no showers. Each camp site has a picnic table, fire ring and tent or RV pad. The campground was pretty open, but there were some incredibly large trees throughout.
The park sits on the Yel…

La Super Rica is a local favorite that serves up unique tasting Mexican food in an ultra casual setting. You wait in a long line, place your order, then grab a seat on a plastic chair under some tarp on a tent-like patio. Supposedly this place was a favorite of Julia Child, and it has received multi…
