This is by far the most fascinating stop I made in the Old City. On display here travelers can find priestly garments and implements made in preparation for the third Temple. A giant golden Menorah is also on display nearby in the Cardo. Scale models, an excellent gift-shop, and first rate videos…

Yad Vashem is the Holocaust Remembrance Museum, located in Jerusalem, Israel. It is hands down the most powerful and brilliantly designed museum I've been fortunate enough to visit. Be ready to feel a heaviness come down on you as you enter the museum, and also be ready to spend a day (minimum) ther…

Israel's second most popular tourist site after the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem.
A mountain top fortress which King Herod transformed in 35 BC into a three tiered winter home, boasts two luxurious palaces, bathhouses, storage rooms and impressive water cisterns. An eternal symbol of Jewish history an…

I found the Mount Zion Hotel to be a spectacular accommodation while in Israel. A casual walk from the Holy City by way of Gehenna, its gift shop is well-stocked and reasonable, while its café is excellent--especially the view! There's also a very nice synagogue which holds sabbath services for t…

If you're more into the history of the fertile crescent as opposed to comfy bus tours, Masada is a must. This mesa is an ancient fortress representing the last stand of the Jewish people against the Romans. When they lost this battle, the Jews were scattered for over a thousand years until Israel …

Our private tour (you must call ahead or stop by in the morning for reservations) took us beneath the Western Wall to the original paths walked by pilgrims thousands of year ago. It is simply breath-taking to see the original carved stones of Herod's temple, all marked with his unique "frame"! I s…

I found White Hall to be a swell place for a great steak while in Tel Aviv. Only about five minutes' stroll from the beach, the atmosphere was wonderful. I will say the dining room was a bit cramped, but when I went at dinner time, there was no problem getting a table. I give this spot an A+! I …

Another family we had gotten in touch with while staying in Haifa had reccomended a restaurant we could go to that they loved. So we took a taxi down to Ben Gurion and went looking for it.

I went to Israel with a tour group. Everything was paid for except souveniers. It was the best ten days of my life. We covered practically the entire country. While staying in the Jaffa Hostel, I made a point of stopping by Henry's Café every morning for some apple juice and a Danish. Small, but well-stocked, I found the employees to be helpful and gracious--and the Danishes were good, too! I last had breakfast at Henry's Café in March, 2005.
