Future Travels/Dream Destinations
Countries I've Traveled To
Languages Spoken
Perfect English but I am also fluent in southern drawl (I grew up in a southern country home as a child to this day I continue to watch NASCAR religiously)... I can speak a little ghetto when needed (though my ghetto is thankfully rusty)
Interests
Books you might find in my backpack
Very few while hiking - books are heavy. BUT if we are just talking about what I enjoy reading: Classic Lit (including but not limited to): Charles Dickens, C. Bronte (Jane Eyer is amazing!), Dostoevsky (Loved the Idiot), Defoe- anyone who can't get into Defoe has issues, Hawthorn -GREAT imagery, Hemingway, the list goes on for ever... Newer books like the unbearable lightness of being and Narcissus and Goldman... Even some children's lit - the Giver, Arabat, ANYTHING by Jack London (Call of the Wild stole my heart as a child...) I enjoy books where the author is able to transport you into the book - that is what I enjoy. I enjoy reading authors that can paint the story so vividly that I feel like I am there - but is not so verbose as to seem contrived.
and since we are on the subject of books- I have a bit of a rant on this! WHY? in the name of all that is good and reasonable, why do schools push books on children that are far too complex for the child to understand? I mean really, how is a 10th grade baby supposed to understand A Tale of Two Cities? My 10th grade teacher had me read that and I hated it... I didn't get it, I thought it was dull and useless. I read it again a year ago as an adult and LOVED it. I hated poetry for the longest time because it was introduced poorly and too young- but a few years ago was reintroduced to some amazing civil war poetry! ok-the rant is over. but seriously - kids need to read aga appropriate great books- there are TONS of age appropriate great books... Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the flys... grrr Music you might find me listening to while waiting for my plane
I need an iPOD... I'm stuck listening to airport music.
Though, to be honest.. I really don't care too much about music... THERE I said it: I really don't care about music. If the billions of music lovers out there want to gut me and hang me out to dry, so be it. I care about books - I don't care about Brittany, mmm-bop, hip hop, or whatever the heck else is out there...
My secret is out... I wait for the doom-filled onslaught of music lovers everywhere. But I stand strong by my reply - I really don't care. Most Memorable Travel Experience
At the moment, my favorite memories are the things I've forgotten. You know, the bad things that seemed so horrible at the moment - but when you look back all you remember is how many great things happened. I look back and think, "oh yeah and do you remember when our flight was canceled, we ate cow intestines by mistake and you got so ill you couldn't move (while we were in the middle of a hike)???" Suddenly the bad things become amusing, the good things seem even better and I have nothing but happy memories.
Profile
I am a hermit. Actually, I am more like a hobbit... Ok, I admit it, I am a nerd/geek. I'm also a bit of a Marty Stouffer fan...
So, I thought last year was the best year of my life because I was happy, I had several great trips, I participated in (and finished) my first triathlon and I got to do all of this with my best friend and lover... BUT then we planed this year and life keeps getting better. I pretty sure life is just pretty damn great in general.

The more I know, the more I know that I don't know. The more I travel, the more I find to learn. And with every newly learned experince or bit of knowledge, the more I become at peace with the world around me. For me peace comes, not because we "win" or "sumbit," and it doesn't come because we are right or wrong. Rather, peace comes because at some point we understand that we have to simply live, let live and accept people for who they are.
