estes park is pretty nice, but i had a really good time in boulder ( although a little south of Rocky Mountain Park), didn't do much hiking but for a good time this is the place to be. Hope this helps, spent most of my time in the south west corner near mesa verda, and telluride.

Thanks for the review. I was out there 8 years ago, but I was young and at the mercy of my family. This time I'm going alone and renting a car...so hopefully I'll be able to see a lot more. I do have a few relatives out there as well.

stop!!  jeje Yes, we stopped one more time in another gas station to get some deicing fluid. We continue our trip hopping next time we stop would be in Vail.   When we arrived Vail, we had to pay $25 USD just for parking… Colorado, Nov. 27 to Dec. 4, 2008

The train had a scheduled one hour stop to take on water and fuel. I went with another passenger named Mary Ann to a book store called Tattered Corners that was not far from the station. On the way back to the train, I stopped in the station to have a look… Denver, Rockies and Tunnels
