Istiklal Cd. May 31, 2017
The Istiklal Street is the liveliest street in the European part of Istanbul, on the Golden Horn's east bank. It is Beyoğlu's main shopping, dining and night life avenue. Every day thousands walk through it. It is also one of the most important symbols of the westernization period of Ottomans.

When I asked where to buy some good quality clothes in the city, I was addressed to that street. Among Istiklal shopping facilities you can find shops selling famous world brands, the most attractive Turkish fashion, created from the high quality textiles of the country as well as shops with exquisite jewellery and authentic handicrafts, handbags and shoes. Music stores, art galleries, bookstores, cinemas, theaters, libraries line the street. There are many smaller shops in the passages selling diverse goods.

Among the well known restaurants, bars or cafes are also those in Cicek Pasaji( Flower Passage), full of tourists. In the street you can find historical patisseries and chocolateries like Koska.

There used to run the nostalgic tram( 1.64 km or 1 mile) usually full, connecting Taksim Square with Galatasaray and Tünel Square. The ride was relatively slow and the conductor had to constantly ring his bell to clear the way of pedestrians. It was the main attraction in this street until this year when the tram was taken out of service.

Shopping & Eating Day & Night at Istiklal Jun 06, 2010
If you visit Istanbul, I'd recommend staying at least 2 nights at the Istiklal Avenue, near Taksim Square. You can easily take an underground to reach this place. This is the hub for everything. Branded to non-branded stores, wet to dry market, bars to clubs etc etc. Here you can definitely spend the entire day wandering around from the start till the end of the road. In between, don't forget to check out the alleys & small lanes as you can find great pubs to hangout with your friends or just for a beer.
