Íslenski Barinn Reykjavik Reviews
Great spot - affordable Icelandic food, atmosphere with music Jan 11, 2011
Íslenski Barinn, or Icelandic Bar, is a bar and restaurant located by City Hall that serves traditional Icelandic food from minke whale, puffin, fish, lamb, and Icelandic versions of burgers. They have an extensive collection of Icelandic beers on tap and bottled.
Prices range from cheap to affordable depending on the time of the day for a meal and drinks. They offer lunch menu daily for 1000 ISK - a great steal!
They also have live band that performs traditional Icelandic pop music.
We stopped by on a Sunday night and enjoyed some hot chocolate and coffee - music was nice, the atmosphere relaxing, and the staff nice. The food affordable, if not, averagely price, typical Icelandic prices. There were people who was enjoying a cup of coffee or drink with their laptop - surfing the web or doind their home/work (?)
On our last day, we enjoyed their 1000 ISK of lamb chop with pureed potatoes and glazed root vegetables on their lunch menu which came with soup and bread.
We never felt we were rushed to leave. On the night we stopped by, we spend more than 2 hours chatting away, despite having finished our drinks. We were never bothered aside from the occasional check from the staff if we'd like to order anything else.
Wi-Fi is available (also from the neighboring hotel).
Tip: Check out their daily lunch menu (1000 ISK/~$10)for an affordable lunch of traditional Icelandic fare!
