Mercado Calle de Artesanioa Y Pintura, San Jose, Costa Rica Sep 03, 2016
We walked from the downtown Dunn Inn to the Jade Museum. We found the large city block long tent with young vendors selling the textile and wood crafts common to Costa Rica. That was Mercado Calle National de Artesania Y Pinture. We decided on the market before the Jade Museum. These friendly young vendors would heat engrave your name on your wooden coffee cup.

They had a variety of goods and lots of them. I got me a sitting hammock that I later mounted at home. That hammock has good back and full leg support. (snooooze) I like the hammock so much I built a small wood table on the oak tree by my hammock.

The good employees of the Dunn Inn have been well advising us on places to see and we have other places to visit on todays walking tour of San Jose. (Most other local owned hotels would be very helpful for their visitors also.)

We walked uphill to the nearby railroad station. There was no train action while we were there. They were nice enough to let us look around inside the station and out. They had an old steam locomotive and a current one. Now this is a very minor RR station with few trains a day. The main RR station for the San Jose area is a few miles North in the suburb town of Heredia. Now Heredia would be a great full day visit. Its a nice historic old town with neat old buildings...and we failed to get to Heredia.

Nothing was moving so we walked downhill to something new.

Ok so everybody loves to shop when there travelling around, get a few fridge magnets for your family, but that cheap tshirt, or new pair of converse, but what you should know about shopping in San jose is, that they the shop assistants watch you like a bloody hawk, they for some reason which we personally do not know, think that we as (foriegners) are very likely to steal. So i am only warning you for being followed around, with men with guns, and sour faced teenage girls on there lunch breaks. It can be very annoying, esp if your a savy traveller who doesnt carry a bag. But if you do carry a bag, you are very likely to be told to place it in a locker, even if its the supermarket. We got totally fed up with being followed in clothes shops that we thought sod that, and decided against shopping, and brought our things more outside San Jose, where the ppl seemed more relaxed. Tho if your after that pair of bright yellow converse and must have it no matter what, then be warned the moment you pick up the shoes, you will have two assistants on your arse, asking you to ¨buy now¨ its weird, its like you cant actually walk around with stuff in your hands. But like i said, anywhere else in Costa rica is fine, its only the city that there is a weird obsession with theft
