lima can be very safe as long as you keep your wits about you. lima has become for advanced than it was a few years ago. and sure you can see most with out a guide, but make sure you always know where you are going to go and that you keep all belongings close to you and if the are too valuable either in a safe in your hotel or away from peering eyes. so dont go walking around in dolce & gabana with your ipod flying around. dress down and if you take pictures keep you camerea close to you. miraflores and san isidro are safer areas. if you want to see the other areas of lima take a hotel taxi. they'll probably charge about 20 soles to tour you around lima. you can see china town, the barefoot monestary, the schools, and the government plaza. and you dont have to worry about going through sketchy areas since most cabbies wont go there on there own anyway. baranco stay in the center plaza. at night there's a great gastronomy fair with great food. but dont eat salads or fish or drink the water it will make you sick. stick to grilled and fried foods. and be wary of sauces some are ok but its good to be careful. oh yea all the desserts are fine. then you have the artisan fair and you can go around by the little red church and go to hte "puente de suspiros" bridge of sighs (great photo op). anything else and you are welcome to email me. oh as for hotel i like the hotel ariosto in miraflores. hte have agreat breakfast buffet thats include with your stay and free internet.

…the finally did, in the evening of our second day there, it was perhaps a little premature - our bus company left in convey for safety reasons but there were still a lot of disruptions and the police were needed to clear the way (nothing like a few gun shots to get people panicing). At one stage I saw a big rock thrown at our bus but fortunately it dropped… Protesters with rocks, jungles with waterfalls

…The taxi situation was strange (the official airport drivers readily admit they are charging twice as much, but in exchange for safety), the streets look really poor, we were stared at in the highway (more like a large street), the traffic was terrible, and our bus station was in the middle of an industrial area. Since we had 8 hours until our bus left, we just… Lima (in 8 hours)
