Excellent location with beautiful views over the sea! they have a nice outdoors terrace where we had a nice cold beer during sunset. The food was just magnificient. We had a couple of apetizers and then some fish, which was just incredible. I guess that the location, the service and the food make this restaurant one of my favourites in Gijón! Although I must say it is not a cheap restaurant, as it came up to be 50 euros per person. Besides apetizers and our mains, we also had a nice bottle of white wine... highly recommendable, although be aware it is not a cheap restaurant :)

We´ve been having a crazy time here in Spain. Tried our first ´couchsurfing´experience. Great system, stay at a home in the city for no $$, get shown around to every bar in the city, get taught every crazy Spanish drinking tradition there is, and get excited about doing the same for someone who is coming to visit your own city one day. As if people will come to Kamloops, haha! So I´m at our host´s home now, having left my daughter to fend off the Spanish boys. We were made to feel like party novices when we wanted to go home at 5 am yesterday. They don´t close their bars until 8 am. Crazy. Such funny things they do. Drivers who need to stop for a moment to see their friend for example, just stop in the middle of the road, put their hazards on and do what they need to. The cars just drive around them! Camera fixed now, so just need a cord to download and will try to get some pics on here. Danya, all is GREAT! haha.

Definitely one of the best places to experience how people from asturias celebrate parties. It is been just amazing. My friend arranged a dinner for just 25 euros and we drank and ate until we couldn't have any more. We started with seafood and we ended up with a final "chupito" (shot!). During the whole dinner they have a bartender serving Sidra. It is similar to white wine but made from apple instead of grapes. What it is really peculiar is how they serve it. We had plenty of different dishes, but the best was a huge crab called "centollo". They told me that it is a tradition to have party like that.

This restaurant was just excellent! They do everything on the grill, and they serve the best wine! I feel a little bit tipsy right now! :) (Torremilanes de Ribera del Duero) We started having some "almejas a la marinera" and "chorizo", and for seconds we had "chuletón" and also "conejo". I went there with two guys from work who live there, so I didnt have to decide what to order! The place is awesome, there were no tourists, but people from the place who enjoys eating well! we got there around 4pm on Friday and was packed! For desserts we didn´t order anything but they served us shots "orujo"... I will strongly recommend you this restaurant!

It is a hotel very close from the old town, very convenient if you do not want to drive around, although you can get a taxi and go anywhere in the city for good money. The room is ok, very new and clean. The shower is awesome, good pressure and a decent size. If you come for work, the desk you have in the room is not that big, but if you have a cool macbook you will not have a problem :) They also have a private parking, very convenient if you drove for 4 hours to get there! What I didn´t like that much is the breakfast they serve, the coffe was horrible, so I had to find it somewhere else! Anyway, it is a good option for the money I paid (55 euros).

Aviles, Spain>, Jan 20, 2007

Aviles is a small town with a nice atmosphere - a typical spanish place, north-west situated in the Asturias region. In sunday everybody goes to church in the morning (or at least so it seems) and everything is close because of the Catholic religion (on the Balkan Peninsula, where Bulgaria is, shops usually work 365 days per a year and often 24 hours per day). In my opinion even the atheists can't be impartial in Spain.
The most popular beach "La salinas" looked as much as that one in the movie "The beach" with De Caprio - sandy, with a crystal water and broad coast, virgin. In this season the climate in Northern Spain is far from tropical, more temperate, the water is extremely cold (I remember the guide told us that the cold water is namely the reason for absence of sharks), but anyway it's unbelievably relaxing for the body and mind.
I like various kitchen, but even 2 weeks for paella, fishes and shellfishes weren't enough. The Asturias region is also popular with the youghourt and "fabada" bean stew.
At the end about the night life... well in Spain it's an eternal fiesta. Drinking sangria and roses, playing "duro" (unforgettable making you to forget drinking game) in a western-looked pubs, dancing from 4 AM, when the discos open, till the morning...
I hope to repeat my Spanish trip this year and to bring you more impressions
