I joked with Micha that I would like to get a ferry over to Scandinavia, but never seriously thought he would go for it. But Micha being Micha, he usually tries to make everything possible...and we biked to the port and paid about €16,- each to take ourselves and our bikes onto the ferry to Denmark.

I was a bit worried about going on the ferry since I've never made a journey across the sea on a ferry. Especially one like the Baltic Sea which is reknowned for its roughness. I was concerned I might suffer from seasickness, but luckily I was fine and I loved the whole experience.

When we arrived at Gedser, the port in Denmark, we spent a little while figuring out which way to go to get to the nearest town, but eventually got on our way. That journey was such an adventure, it was really windy as we biked across deserted roads through very flat countryside, through cute little villages. The chain came off my bike and Micha had to fix it, and I also nearly got blown off my bike, and ran myself into roadside dips several times because the wind was so powerful.

Nykobing wasn't particularly interesting in itself. The hilight of our time in this Danish town was when I nearly got killed by a vicious old lady with a zimmer frame. I was cycling down a path with Micha and I saw the lady creeping up the street so I swirved to avoid her but she went the same way, so in the end I was driven into the road....she was scary...this story has been told many a time since and still hasn't lost its hilarity factor. Though I guess, you really had to be there...

We managed to get a bus back to Gedser, because 25km was simply too far to bike back. The ferry journey back was pretty cool. We had money to waste [Danish money is very odd, the coins have holes in the middle] in the shop on the ferry, and being in a moving shop is very odd...it was swaying about..it was kind of surreal...

When it came back to cycling back to Rostock Micha got lost and we eventually found a bus to take us partway back. When we finally got back to the flat, I slept like I'd never slept before, a sleep close to death, I was that exhausted!
