I was supposed to start work on the 16th but my Massachusetts license wasn't ready yet. So I took advantage of the weekdays off and went exploring. One of my passions is lighthouses and the state of Mass. has it's share of them. I had a map that showed several of them and one of my goals (besides working) was to see as many as I could. I drove south with my yahoo directions and found Ned's Point in Mattapoisett. It was white and the tower is 39 feet high, so it wasn't very tall and was buit in 1838. After being here for a little while, I then drove to New Bedford (it seemed in circles for 45 minutes) until I found the place to view Butler Flats Lighthouse. This one was out in the channel of New Bedford. I drove around New Bedford and by this time I realized how crazy Massachusetts drivers are! lol That's another story in itself.

I found a sign for a beach so I of course took the turn. It led me to Fort Pheonix Reserve in Fairhaven. I took a pathway that led to some old cannons facing New Bedford Harbor and a hurricane wll came into view. In the distance I saw a small white lighthouse which was Palmer's Island Lighthouse. It can only be reached by foot at low tide via the hurricane wall. I was not going to chance it by myself. There were signs posting of the park's closing time at which it was getting to be, so I started back to my apartment.
