We went to Bermuda in '04 and '06 and I have to say it's definitely one of our favorite destinations. The island is beautiful and easy to navigate, the people are friendly and the pink sand beaches are stunning! It doesn't take much to find a secluded beach where you may be the only ones there. Oh, don't miss horseback riding on the beach! Spicelands Riding Center was the place we used and the route they lead you on is gorgeous! We went through some beautiful trails and got to see and smell the plants and trees that people make spices from. Then all of the sudden you emerge from the trees right on to the most beautiful beaches. It's absolultely stunning!

The first time we went to Bermuda we stayed at The Grotto Bay Beach Resort. The second time we went we rented a small apartment attached to the owner's house. This was so much more economical. There was a grocery store a short walk away so we'd pack lunches everyday to take to the beach. The buses are very easy to use. Not always right on time, but close enough :) You have to pay attention to the stops (which aren't always marked) so you know where to get off. If you have no idea, just ask the driver and they'll make sure you get to your destination.

Bermuda really is a great place to visit. There isn't much nightlife, but it's a wonderful relaxing vacation. One of the best parts is that it's such a safe island. You can go anywhere and feel comfortable. Apparently they have an extremely low rate of crime and unemployment.

P.S. I had to censor and re-post my "Silhouette" photo...how'd I do? Still good?

We stayed at the Grotto Bay and had a wonderful time. The room was very spacious with island-style wicker furniture, very nice tile flooring and a nice large bathroom. We faced the ocean and had a gorgeous view. The service was great. The room was a little bit of a walk from the main hotel office, but the staff kindly transferred our luggage upon arrival and departure to and from our room. At the end of every day we'd end up with sand on the floor from being at the beach, and the cleaning crew never failed to have it swept up every morning. We never ate at the hotel so no opinion there. The bus was extremely easy to take into Hamilton with a bus stop at the resort entrance. The private beach was beautiful. Never crowded. The water was crystal clear and very warm. I ordered one pina colada which was way overpriced at $9 and was very weak. That's probably my only complaint. The crystal caves on the property are really neat to see. You can actually swim in them, but the water stays very cold inside. The property grounds are very beautiful. There are hibiscus flowers everywhere you look. One fun aspect is that the property has it's own Moon Gate which is also the entrance to a large hot tub hidden in hibiscus plants and shrubs...it's very pretty. Be aware that there are a decent amount of steps around the property which you can see in one of my photos. Grotto Bay's location has it's pros and cons. It's so close to the airport so upon arrival, you get to settle in right away and avoid a long taxi or bus ride, but it's not close to the main city of Hamilton....about a 30 min. bus ride. Not bad as long as you get on the right bus. One night we took a bus that went a really long round-a-bout route, but that was our silly mistake...it's really very easy to navigate All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grotto Bay.

Being a frequent traveler to Bermuda and having many set of relatives living here, this had been the first time I actually stayed in a place in Bermuda other than family's. The price was a bit high for my liking, but in considering the location and the fact that we are talking about Bermuda, it was decent. The guesthouses were great, large living/kitchen area with a tv and a bedroom with two single beds and yet another tv. To tell you the truth I do not remember the bathroom, but if it were disgusting I would have, so it couldn't be that bad. The location is about a 3 minute drive from the main street in Hamiliton, or about a 10 minute walk. Keep in min the speed limit on the island doesn't go over 30 miles an hour, so the speed limit we're dealing with in town is probably about 15 - 20miles/h. The pool was huge, and a little heated, but for the time I went for(May) it was perfect, refreashing, but not nice enough to stay in for a really long time, which believe it or not you will appricate once in Bermuda. The garden and trees surrounding this place are ridiculous. I just love Bermuda though, so this could be a bias review.:)

I often stay here on business, and enjoy the hotel very much. I do have a criticism about the hotel housekeeping staff. They will often yell things to each other in the hallway, not realizing that some people behind their doors with the "privacy please" on their doorknob could actually be sleeping. Of course, this is during the day, and they must incorrectly assume that everyone is out of their room. However, as a member of a flight crew, we often keep different hours from the regular tourists, and are actually trying to nap during the day.
I also have to cater food from here for my return flight back to the States. It is extremely expensive. I had 2 bags of food, which included some soup, some salad, and some cookies. I was charged $173 for this food, and they added an extra $100 tip for gratuity for putting the order together. Wow, what a huge rip-off. Everything that the hotel staff does for you will add on a 20% tip. What a rip-off.
