The Water Works has a sports bar on one side and a reasturaunt on the other. You can come on in and watch the game with your friends plenty of seating so you can sit and watch one of thier TV's wich at least one from April to October will be broadcasting a Red Sox game. Grab a menu and order some food and they have a good selection of beer. If you visit thier website you can see what they have on the menu because they have a menue link. Its a good place for large groups of people.

If its a nice sunny day in Rockland and your looking for something to do I recomend walking out to the Breakwater Lighthouse. Thier is a little parking area at the end of Samoset Rd where you can leave you vehicle to get out and explore. Thier is a little park at the begining of the trail wich makes for a nice place to have luch or just to sit and watch the lobster boast coming in and out of the harbor. The Breakwater is about a mile long and leads out to Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. A small brick lighthouse that is still in use to aid in navigation of ships it has a 4th order fresnel lens and its fog horn blasts once every 15 seconds. If you do plan on walking out thier remeber your on the water thier is usually a breeze and the temp drops a few degrees. The Breakwater is made of granite wich is uneven and has big gaps so wear sensible shoes. It gets slippery if its wet also if thier is a thunderstorm and your out thier they recomend staying close to the lighthouse. It is a nice place to come and watch the sunrise if your an early bird. Also alot of people use it to fish off of for Mackeral and strippers. Its a nice place to take a walk and just relax you can listen to the gulls and the waves crashing around the granite wall.

Rockland has its fair share of resturaunts to choose from from lunch and dinner. We went to the China Coast for thier lunch time buffet. They also have lunch and dinner combo's or you could just choose a regular entree. The wait staff is freindly and thier is hardly ever a wait even at times when the resturaunt is almost filled. They do and excellent and fast take out service as well. It's a casual dinning setting wich is good cause sometimes my freinds and I can be kinda loud. They have recieved a few awards from local papers for thier food and service.

The Breakwater Lighthouse sits about 1 mile out into Rockland Harbor. The mile long granit wall give the harbor ample protection during periods of rough seas. It is an unmanned lighthouse and if you have time to kill on a nice day like I did today it makes for a nice walk. A word of caution there are many holes and it is an uneven surface so if your not into that kind of thing you might want to enjoy it from the park on the shore. However the sun was bright and shinney today and since my friend and me had the day off we went exploring. A little windy out on the water it made it feel a lot cooler than it was but after a long winter with record snowfalls we wernt the only ones out on the wall today. If your into the romantic thing it also makes a nice walk at night bring a flashligh if there is no moon though there are benches you can sit on on the lighthouse platform or you can sit on the side of the rocks just listening to the waves crash around you. In the summer and fall alot of people use this spot for mackeral fishing or even the occasional stripper and plenty of shops in the area offer tackle and bait. I have fished here a few times myself and its just a nice place to go. You can look out and see some Islands that spot the Maine coast the occasional seal may swim nearby or watch the lobsterman coming or going.

The Time Out Pub is an atmoshpere for everyone. The downstairs serves lunch specials during the day and has some TV's to watch the sports channels. There is also kareoke and pool. Upstairs hosts live music or a D.J. on the weekends and dancing. There is always a local cab service available right outside and located next door is the Trade Winds Motel there is also plenty of parking down back. In the summer months it is the closest bar to the Lobster Festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival. They have a freindly staff and a good atmoshpere.

This leg took me across New Hampshire and Maine to the coast where I set up at the Elks Lodge in Rockland. A nice Lodge but with limited facilities for Rv parking. They had electric service but no water so I filled my tank and was all set.

had some problems with my truck here and A nice guy from the Lodge hustled me into his car and drove me over to Cecil's garage. Introduced me as a brother Elk and asked him to take care of me. Cecil dropped everything and in no time I was fixed up at what I thought was a reasonable price. One of the benefits of Elk membership.

Took a ride up the beautiful Maine coast to Acadia National Park. Route 1 follows the coast and is a great ride passing through many of the small coastal towns. Bar harbor is a small town just outside of the entrance to the National Park and as a result is quite touristy with the normal amount of tee shirt stores and resturants. Needless I had my maine lobster, (several times). Acadia Nat'l Park is such a beautiful place with miles of roads along the coast with great scenery. I could not resist visiting a fort which was guarding the river approach to Bangor, Maine. Fort Knox has been beautifuly restored. It was constructed in the 1800's. Another highlight was all of the lighthouses that are along the coast. I visited several of them.

Just outside of Rockland where I was staying, I found a great sleeper of a museum. Owls Head Transportation Museum is quite impressive with great displays of old cars, planes and motorcycles. The museum seems to be very well funded based on the high quality of items on display. Some very old cars and planes brought back to showroom condition.

Summary:

Elks Lodges - 15 Escapees - 5 Public RV Parks - 7 Nat'l Parks - 13 Major Ships - 5 Forts - 10

Expenses: 5 months on the road with an average expense of $1800 per month.
