I heard this on the news and it made me titter. Apparently forgetful passengers are still handing in hundreds of litres of baked beans, sauces, curries, suncream and insect repellent every day at airport check-ins and this is over two years after security restrictions on
hand luggage were brought in.

Airport officials are having to confiscate hundreds of items despite awareness campaigns and signs.

At one airport officials had to dispose of around ``3840 cubic feet of 'surrendered items' every month.
The most common items in hand luggage were jars of Marmite (why!)and marmalade, champagne, baked beans and ornamental snow globes.

I have yet to have anything confiscated and I got great advice from Holidayhypermarket.co.uk staff who recommended that I ensured all liquids over 100ml size were packed in my main luggage and that all items I could freely purchase in my resort where left at home. so I didn't add to the airports horde of goods.

Holidayhypermarket.co.uk is a one stop online shop for all your holiday needs from airport parking to resort transfers, You can choose to book a package deal or create your ideal break with their build your own search option. Friendly knowledgable staff are only a phone call away if you need help. I now won't look anywhere else when booking a holiday.I have travelled with them for the last 4 years and have never been dissapointed. Sometimes buying things on the internet can be a scary proposition but they made the whole experience very enjoyable.

And then it was Sunday. The day we had to get back home again. I had a very good night on Matt's bedroom floor. As a matter of fact, I had a better sleep on the floor then I did in the bed. Luckily Bondy kept the booze in that night downstairs since Matt banned him from his bedroom. Matt's housemate Di made us all a wonderful delicious English breakfast. No bullshittin'. It was really good and I really appriciated she did that for us. We all had breakfast together. I canstill tasted those beans when I think back to it. I loved it. Matt was still half drunk so he went along as a passenger as Di drove Bondy & Wayne to the bus station (which was a rush and they didn't make it eventually) and me to the airport. Much appriciated. After I said my see-you-laters to Matt and Di I checked myself in and then killed time by strolling to Manchester Airport. I even bought a deck of cards. I don't know why though. I re-lived the whole weekend in my mind. Then got on the plane, plugged my iPod in and re-lived it again and went all the way home. It won't be the last time me and Manchester will cross each others path I'm sure! Another great and memorable weekend.

This saturday started how the first day ended: with Bondy's little throwing up action. When we woke up Matt went downstairs to fix us breakfast. As I grabbed my stuff to take a shower I noticed some of Bondy's projectiles on my shoe. So I took my shoe downstairs to the kitchen where Matt was cooking so I could clean it. I wasn't aware that Matt didn't realize yet Bondy fouled up his bed and I assumed he allready knew. I showed him my shoe and I told him what it was. At first he didn't believed me so I aksed him if he took a look at his bed when he woke up and he said no. I told him he was in for a surprise then haha. I have to say, Matt was a good sport about it. I got respect for that. It was actually also pretty funny. After I cleaned up my shoe I went backupstairs and I found Bondy cleaning Matt's wall where he barfed on with paper and tonic! It made me laugh sop hard but I gotta hand it to him, he got it clean. But Matt wisely decided to notlet Bondy sleep in the bed that night. I wanted to take a pic of the war zone but it was just too gross.

That afternoon we decided to go a local pub and watch the Everton vs. Liverpool match. Matt, who is a full on Everton fan, was getting all hyped up about the derby. For Matt's sake I'd just won't elaborate on the match. But before we reached the pub we had to go passed the dog again that always barks at us safely from behind the garden back door. It started barking before we even passed the door and Bondy decided to taunt him. I made a nice video of it. We walked on but Bondy was finished with his little dog action. When he caught up with us he told us he had an arguement with the lady who owns the dog. Oh really Bondy? What a suprise haha.

When we finally reached the pub where the match was shown we were joined by Ian (Real_PeaceWarrior) who attented his first meet up. We found out he runs a pub so we allready knew he and us would get along great. Later on, one of Matt's friends joined us also as we all watched the match, had a few beers and talked a lot. A nice way to start the saturday.

After the Everton Match was over, Wayne and Bondy wanted to see the Manchester United - Bolton game. There was supposed to be a bar around that showed it but we couldn't find it. BOndy asked for directions but they send him the wrong way. We eventually found it which was good because I seriously had to pee. But they didn't show the match so we ended back up in O'Neill where we had more drinks and I had me a big steak. I was losing energy at this point so I laid low on the alcohol for a moment and enjoyed a discussion between Bondy and Matt on wheter or not Darren Fletcher would be a good player for Everton. It got a little bit heated so I videotaped it but it was funny as hell for sure. I think they finally just agreed to disagree.

Not long after that we were joined by a diffrent Matt. also a TB member but I don't know his screen name. A good guy with lots of funny stories. He was gonna join us for the night. I found out he'll join us also forthe Laos meet up in April 2009. Yay to that! Unfortuanetly around that time Ian had to get going because he had to run the pub he's in charge of that night. We tried to convince him to stay buthe really had to get back. After a few more drinks we went back to Matt's house and changed clothes/shoes and we were off again. It was dinner time.

We went took a taxi and after Matt and Bondy finished playing there little lovers game of stare we got out and went for curry. Me and the Matt that joined us a few hours ago really had to go to the restroom again. Finally we reached the curry place. We were joined there by Matt's mate Billy. Another good guy. We had formed a nice group by now. Bondy tried to order a beer but they didn't serve beer there. Bondy seemed rather surprised and dissapointed. The curry was good though. Spicy, just how I liked it. I spoke about Thailand with Wayne and showed me a pic I wish he hadn't (you know which one I'm talking about). I'm sure Bondy didn't want him to show that one either haha. The food was good, I had another nice base for more drinking and from there it was off to the next stop of the trip: the karaoke bar.

I actually forgot we were going to do the whole karaoke thing. Matt told us the night before. I honestly did plan on singing as long as I was drunk enough but unfortanetly I was nowhere near it yet. The place was nice though. They do had some nice songs that fit my soul voice haha. Next time I will, next time... Wayne and Matt did sing eventually though. The did their own version of "Unchained Melody" by The Rightous Brothers and of course I got it all on video. I was very proud of them. I would never buy a cd of it but they did give away a good performance! I tip my hat to these entertainers and it was still better then some performances that were done. We were all a bit worried about Barfmeister Bondy because he was a bit too qiuet but he pulled through for sure. It was a good night where we paid hommage to a few others (see pics) thanks to the signs Wayne made. After the club we were joined by 2 of Matt's housemates. Diana and the French Phillipe (if that's the correct way to spell it) We wanted to go to a club called Mojo but the line was immense and no way we were going to wait for that long so we went to the club next to Mojo, The Purple something something. A small club but it was good fun. Joking around with everybody. Matt 2 (if I can call him like that for now) had to go then also so he could catch the last bus or train. Once again we failed in convincing someone to stay longer. We really need to work on that but we know we'll see those guys soon again.

After we left the club it was time for what somehow always happens, Wayne jumping on my back and me carrying him through the streets. He told me to chase Bondy so he could kick him and yes, just like in Chesterfield he managed to choke me one time during the piggy back ride. You'll never learn, will you Wayne :) I was very happy to find out we went back to the funk club. Me, Di and Bondy rushed in. I just wanted a Budweiser and dance so that was exactly what I did. The club was more crowded then last time but it was all good so we took over the dancefloor and we really danced our asses off. This was exactly my type of music! Eventually me and Bondy almost got into some problems with these 2 knuckleheads at the toilets who obviously were our for trouble but I couldn't bothered. Bondy gave them the evil eye I think. Eventually they left. Met a lot of people, many I can't remember but it was another wonderful night!

After the club Di drove us home because she wasn't drinking. Bondy got squashed on theback seat as a totally smashed Matt almost cracked my leg by sliding the front seat back. I miyself was squashed between Wayne and Philippe. It was actually quite comfortable apart from Matt's frontseat action. When we finally arrived back at the crib, Wayno jumped on my back again and was looking for oppertunities to kick Bondy. Only the thing was, the person who he had me chasing was Phillipe. His eyesight must have been very bad that night!

Since it was passed midnight it was officially Matt's birthday. Di surprised him with cake so we ate cake and drank gin at 4 am. Matt was completly smashed at this point. It was just a matter of time until he passed out and then it was time to call it a night. I hung around downstairs with Bondy and Matt for a while and then it was time to catch some shuteye. Matt could have his bed. I didn't mind sleeping on the floor. It was actually rather comfortable! Definetly one for the books this night.

Friday 28 september started out as pretty much a normal weekend in Manchester I would say until Barfmaster Bondy, Brothaman Wayne, Birthday Boy Matt and me got united. Oh boy, the city was in trouble then. Now it's hard to put everything down exactly the way it went because the alcohol was flowing like I haven't seen in a long time. But one thing I know for damn sure: it was a kick ass time for real! The Manchester takeover, hosted by Matt.

The weekend started with me playing my usual role of being late. I set one foot out of the plane and Matt was allready calling my phone. But the lines at the passport check were moving too slow so I got out around 10:10 PM or something. Being late is something I'm very good in. Luckily I found my bag rather quick and when I got into the public area I eventually saw a skinny little dude waving his arms which was of course none other that good ol' Wayno followed by the notorious Bondy. I did my hello's, got my money, met up with Matt (who was taking some time for himself at the restroom) and then it was off to the homebase for the week: Matt's crib

By that time Wayne was beer-less for about 1 hour so he was going through serious withdrawl and I was in need of some liquod gold myself. We were supposed to be joined by more TB members but they didn't show up for reasons that I don't know but that was okay. We decided to have a good old guys night out. Luckily Matt hooked us up with some beers before we hit the town. When it comes drowning ourselves in the local nightlife we waste no time. When walking to the pub we had our first encounter with the fierce dog. Especially Bondy was quite fascinated by this beast. Some little mut that was barking loud from behind the garden back door everytime we walked by. It wouldn't be the last we'd be confronted with this dog. Now I honestly can't remember all the names of the pubs and clubs we went to that night so I'm not even gonna try to remember but I do remeber the first one though: O'Neill. That's the only name I could remember. We made teams for drinking rounds. I teamed up with Bondy while Matt and Wayne paired up. The beer and cider started to flow. Flow big time that is. I had another one of my famous good talks with Wayne. By this time he earned the title of my "brother from another mother". I was cracking jokes with Bondy and then it was time to move on.

We had the plan to go clubbing after that but the first 2 or 3 clubs we didn't get in because "the place was full". At least, that's what the bouncers at the front door said but I personally think it was because Bondy was on the blacklist at them clubs. So we decided to try another pub because we were getting extremly thristy again. Matt took us to this loud bar which looked pretty good but appreantly was a gay bay. Not that any of us cared, they had drinks. The bastards didn't even let me finish my Corona because it was time for the next venue. Now this is where the story gets live!

I'm not quite sure if we went to another bar or not but I do remember we took a cab to...I don't know, to somewhere, where Matt took us to a club. I have no idea what the name of the club was but man it was freaking hot! And i ain't talking about hot as in temperature. Appeareantly it was a funk / soul tye of night. Or maybe it was just a funk / soul club, I honestly don't know. I loved it! If you play Curtis Mayfield and Barry White in a club I will takeover the dancefloor. We all got our groove on accompanied by bottles of beer. I think it's safe to say that none of us were sober at this point. What can Isay about that night. It was extreme fun, good music, nice drinks, and quite some eye candy here and there. When I go back to Manchester I definetly will go back there. As expected Wayne fell almost asleep in the club but that's what you get for drinking also hard the night before. Bondy didn't have any problems with it though....or so we thought.

We went back to the house and went to the livingroom where Bondy downed some more gin. Wayne (who'll never wina game of last man standing I think, sorry mate) passed out on the couch. We decided to leave him right there. Matt was nice enough to sleep in the ground so that me and Bondy could take the bed. After a while it was lights out and time to end the first day. I always have problems falling asleep in other peoples house but I was completly awake when I heard very disturbing noises coming from right next to me. It was Bondy throwing up all over Matt's bed. Matt's bed with me also in it! Eventhough Bondy can obviously barf with effect (because it landed in places where we still have no idea hot it got there) he managed to miss me with his projectiles. Thanks Bondy, I still appriciate that big time. All I could say at that point was a simple "aw, goddamned Bondy" but Bondy didn't even hear it. After a while Bondy got up, stood at the foot end of the bed, wave his arms around like a fool and went top (I think) wash his face. Then he came back and fell right asleep. Barfmeister Bondy what's up? A lovely ending to a very good day :)

Well I’m now I’m home, ultimately a painless journey, but
it’s less than one mile from Chigwell rail station and The Three Jolly Wheelers
pub, where my car was parked and thanks to a bus driver who doesn’t know his
route i took nearly two hours .......... don’t ask! I’m undergoing therapy for
it now and in this case the advice is that it’s best to bottle it up!

I did however have a great trip to Iceland, it was
everything I had expected and more, awesome scenery, some culture, great food,
some new friends and places to share a drink and a few laughs with them.

What had I learnt for next time I visit, to decide what it
is I want to see most, and either visit in Summer or wait until late Autumn
with a chance to see the Aurora Borealis. This was the only slight
disappointment about the trip, that I hadn’t been able to see that great free
show in the sky.

Hindsight being a wonderful thing I would probably take my
driving licence next time and hire a car, or better still take my own car and
travel by ferry from Scrabster via the Faro Islands. The bus pass is probably a
good option if you arrive with enough time to use it, but then there is the
lack of flexibility in having to take the bus route and stop only at scheduled
stops or when the driver feels like a coffee, or loo break.

I will definately split the trip a little more fairly
between Reykjavik and probably Akureyri too, as it was a really cool little
city and there was so much more to see in the North that I didn’t get chance to
in my short stopover up there this time.

Absolute essentials for a trip to Iceland include, not in
any particular order; plenty of spending money, a quality waterproof jacket,
swimwear, some good footwear, a good camera, a reliable guidebook and a
flexible ‘give it a go’ attitude. If you have all theswe things, I can almost garuantee
a fantastic experience and a very worthwhile visit.

Hopefully I will meet you on a glacier or whale watching
boat out there soon!

The flight to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Manchester was uneventful. 55 minutes and we were there. Our baggage came off really quickly and we walked to the international terminal (after opening the cases to put the books we'd bought away because the plastic bag was about to snap!) and tried to check in. But because it was 3pm, and our flight didn't leave until 9pm, check-in didn't open until just before 6pm! Manchester Airport Terminal 3 is a barren place - check in desks and a car park, that's it! So we lugged the cases (thankfully they're on wheels) to one of the airport hotels (Beweley's) and strung a sandwich and drinks out for 3 hours! The bar staff obviously knew what we were up to but it must happen all the time. Mark dozed off and I finished my list of must-do things in Bangkok - I'd decided this was the way forward - a list, with page and map references in the Lonely Planet (Mark bought the 2006 edition though - durgh.
There was already a long queue of about 50 people for check in - drat. We'd hoped being there ahead of time we might get emergency exit seats, even though we'd checked in online from home the night before. This was the first time we'd done this so weren't entirely sure how it would work, but as the web check-in baggage drop lane eventually opened we were second in that line, but there was a problem with the baggage tag printer, so people in the standard queue who'd been behind us were about to be served before us. Mark is a born complainer, and mentioned this to the check in supervisor, who let us through the flexi-barrier to the normal check in and lo and behold! We got bulkhead seats, which aren't as much leg room as emergency exit, but better the normal cattle class! Yaay.

A big green book to keep me amused. So the urgh is for 6 hours waiting, bored, doing nothing worthwhile. It's for the horrible departure area. And it's for the ignorant groups of young men and women fulfiling English stereotypes of young Brits on holiday. Hoardes of young men, headed for Ibiza, Magaluf, Kos, Lanzarote, Tenerife (Tanerife as a t-shirt proclaimed) - all in matching t-shirts with pretty vulgar slogans on the back. I'm not a prude (by any means) but there's no need for profanities (I'm talking f&^$ and S*$t and c*$k) on t-shirts at airports with lots of kids. I also didn't want to know what the Bolton Boys on Tour to Magaluf intended to do to any young ladies showing them any attention...

We stayed at the premier inn old trafford for 2 nights from 7/7/08 to 9/7/08. On arrival we met a blonde polish receptionist that would need a few lessons in hospitally, otherwise staff were very helpfull. No amenities in hotel. Bar was on the boring side. Bathroom door did not lock, there was also a disgusting breakfast plate with left overs out side our door (not ours) for most of the first day. location was below average as taxis and busses were expensive. On the subject of taxis we got a drive back to the airport from this big ignorant driver no talk until he asked for the price which was £19.70 and he said £20 giving himself a modest tip. Overall I would recomend the premier inn apart from what I mentioned. Check out the breakfast its mighty.

I woke up like at 6am or 5am. Went to warm up to the bathroom. The others werent far behind. Except for Chris and Kim who slept in Chris' room so they were all nice and warm. I met Chris' dog. Cute little big thing. a lab. We took Chris' car to his workplace, he works at a Travelodge restaurant. We ate breakfast there. It was very yummy. After that we just hung out there forever. And then Chris' took his car to the shop because apparently us all having so much stuff the night before killed it and its suspension popped. Whoops. So we walked back to his house. We did a game plan for the next day. Played with the dog. And then went to the local pub and I had the BEST binoffi pie or however you spell it. Then went back to Chris' and got our stuff. He took us to the Travelodge for the night. It was the most hilarious walk ever. It was somewhat far.. the main road had lights but the other road didnt have any lights nor sidewalk.. so we walked right next to the trees so we wouldnt get hit by a car, but instead the branches. We walked in a line and the first one kept yellin BRANCH all the time to warn the others. We laughed so damn hard. Anyway, sleeping on a MATTRESS was sinfully good! AND I EVEN GOT TO TAKE A SHOWER!! Watched Jeopardy the movie and fell asleep like a light.

In the morning we went to starbucks and drank HUGE coffees. It helped. And it didnt take long for us to board our plane. But before that we did slight shopping. :P
The Ryan Air flight was super short. It was funny. I swear it took like 15 minutes to get up to the normal altitude.. and it stayed there for like another 15mins and then we were descending again. Shortest flight Ive ever been on.
Anyway we hit the bathrooms at the Man airport. And there we met a fellow 30 girl. Took the same bus to the venue. We froze our asses off there for a whole goddamn day! And Chris and them were late. So yeah we this nice swedish girl let us stash our stuff to their hotel room right around the corner. Worked wonderfully. Everyone started to come to the venue and finally we saw FAMILIAR FACES! TONS OF THEM!
It was so nice to see everyone again! We ate and got in. I was so damn dead that I didnt even try gettin to the front. I stayed at the side with Jesco and bunch of other german people.
After the gig. We hung around, I saw the boys told them I was NOT hitting the road with them. But taking the public transportation with bunch of my friends. Way more fun like that, than in a bus with stinky men, yes?
Around two, Chris took us to his place, where we slept in his guest room which had no bed. And it was FREEEEZIN! Ive never been that cold in my life. I sat up the whole night so my whole body wasnt touching the floor.

Urbis is a museum come gallery with a great shop and cafe in the heart of Manchester. Housing off the wall exhibits, often with a theme of Manchester history or social responsibility, it is a fascinating place to end up. And it's free. Score.

Amongst the exhibitions I've seen there has been one on how Manga shaped culture, including street fashion in Manchester, a history of the world famous Hacienda Club and Factory records, something about great advertising, and another one about how to garden in your appartment. The exhibits are usually very well curated and interesting, and you could easily take children in there because there is always colouring activities and large signs warning you if something won't be suitable.

The building itself is cool too; there's a great big diagonal elevator, but you can only use it if you need it because you are disabled or have a buggy or something. And it has a green roof.

The shop is a good place to get interesting art books and postcards, and things like that. I go back each time I'm in Manchester, as a break from the joys of the Arndale centre.

Unfortunately, in the Canned heat, "so tired of travelling but I'm out, and on the road again..." sense rather than the happy one. I had to go to a conference in Manchester. Well, had to is a bit strong. I guess I wanted to too. But I've been really run down recently, and so I wasn't feeling as keen as I normally would be. Which is unusual, because as you know, I love Manchester nearly as much as I love Bristol.

I went up on the Sunday so I could spend some actual time there as well as just see the inside of the conference centre. I have a good friend in Manchester - a few, actually - but I stayed a couple nights with Matt. Sunday was a good day, actually; I made all my connections, the train was only a little late, and Matt came to the xstation and helped me cary my suitcase. Oh - the suitcase. Sigh. I used to go to Spain for a month with a 24 litre pack. Now a week in Manchester takes a suitcase, laptop bag, and three pairs of shoes. Sometimes you realise that you are the sort of person you used to take the piss out of. I mean, hair straighteners. Hair straighteners!! Anyway. Matt helped me back with the suitcase and I discovered that Manchester has riverside walks. It was really pretty, up in Didsbury, the sun was shining, and it all boded well.

On Monday Matt went to work and I finished a spectacularly dull essay on boring things, and went off to the shops once it was done. I needed some shoes for a wedding next week and it turned into a bit of a quest. After a lovely chat with a lady in a jewelry shop, resulting in one necklace but no shoes, I gave up and went to Urbis. Urbis, which I've reviewed before, is a really cool museum and this timet here was a whole floor on the influence of Manga on culture, and Manchester street fashion. It was ace. And there was a nother bit about garndening in the city, which I really liked because I have room for a herb garden in my new flat.
See - the kind of person I used to tease. Sigh.

Suitably refreshed, I went to Manchester Cathedral. By Cathedral standards it's tiny. But it is very nice. The stained glass in particular is stunning, especiually the fire window. You don't really get the full effect here, but it's worth a trip if you're at the shops. I liked the statue of the holy family, too; Mary looks exhausted, Joseph looks worried, and it's a really nice bit of art.

On tuesday I went to the hotel the conference had me booked into. Holiday Inns are fine - souless, but clean, polite, and efficient. Salford was not nice. The Holiday Inn is the heart of an industrial estate and I got very lost looking for the post office so I could mail my essay. On the plus side, I did stumble across Salford Lads' club, famous from a Smiths album. People were taking photos outside but I didn't want to stop.

I went out to Dinner in the Northern Quarter in Troff with two other friends, of which more in a proper review. It was a lovely night.

The conference was in GMEx - sorry, Manchester Central, and it is very nice as conference venues go. It was fine. I drank too much in the evenings - not on expenses, before anyone asks! In chain bars that were OK; the Living Room even had a pianist. I enjoyed myself a lot.

Friday the conference ended and I mooched about in Manchester a bit more, feeling distracted. It was good when Matt finished work, and we went for another walk and hung out by the river. Today Virgin trains - bah! - pulled their usual trick, lost the driver, and I got home an hour late. This is why my Carbon Footprint is still so high!

We played Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg in the final and unfortunatly lost the big match 2-0.Im just kinda starting to get over the result now!
