I left Bogota, catching for the first time one of the local (non Transmilenio) buses to the Terminal de Transportes which actually turned out to be pretty easy although I was feeling uncertain for most of the trip whether I was in fact on the correct bus.

At the terminal I then had a choice of 3 bus companies to choose from to take me to San Gil. The bus terminal is very organised with what must be more than 20 different bus operators servicing the whole country. Since the passing of some law in 2004 there is also notice board with the accumulated totals of accidents, injuries and deaths for the current month and the last year. I couldn't help but notice that two of my three choices had over 10 deaths in the last year so I quickly picked the only remaining option.

The bus itself was comfortable enough and the drive quite uneventful.

Australian run by a guy called Shaun. FANTASTIC. We had the best view in the house in our humble opinion and all for $24,000 pesos for our double room. Shaun has heaps of information on adventure activities and you can arrange them all through him. Great atmosphere and really enjoyed our time here.

Went caving this morning with the 2 Brits and Aussie. Great fun, although scary. We had to get a harness on and got down a zip line into the cave. Heaps of bats, which I seriously think are pretty cute.

We came to a part where we had to climb down a ladder and then get on a small platform and then jump 6m down into deep water. That part really freaked me out.

Really enjoyed it, but alas no photos for today as we couldn´t take our camera in there for obvious reasons.

We are just kicking around the hostel today until about 7pm when we catch a night bus to Santa Marta which takes about 11hrs. Shaun says it´s safe, and means we aren´t wasting a whole day on travel which is nice. The Lost City trek here we come!

Took a bus today from Bogota to San Gil at about 9:30am this morning. Was a good trip - man they have flash buses over here, we got a snack and a movie and extremely comfy seats! Better than any flight that´s for sure!

Weather went from fine to rain, to fine to thunder and lightning. Very interesting. The entire trip took about 7hrs.

We got pulled over by the army and had our first search - it was pretty exciting actually. They spoke no English of course and us barely any Spanish so they just laughed and were quite friendly.

Checked into our hostel run by Shaun. Great place and we have a wicked view (check out the photos)! Have no idea what we will be up to tomorrow yet, so much to do!

We both like Colombia but the scenery is much like at home.
