Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It borders Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. The capital city is Vienna.
As I was only 1 year old, my parents already took me hiking in the Austrian mountains. We went there twice sometimes three times a year. Austria is beautifull country in summer and winter time.
We always used to go to "Tirol" Austria is divided into nine states 'Bundesländer'. Tirol is one of them.
Tyrol (German: Tirol) is a state or Bundesland, located in the west of Austria.
The state is split into two parts - called North Tyrol and East Tyrol - by a 20km-wide strip of land where the state of Salzburg borders directly on the Italian Province of Bolzano-Bozen (Alto Adige/South Tyrol).

North Tyrol borders Bavaria, Germany, in the north, the state of Vorarlberg in the west, Bozen-Bolzano, Italy, and Switzerland in the south and Salzburg in the east. East Tyrol also borders Carinthia in the east.

The highest mountain in the state is the Großglockner in the Hohe Tauern, with a hight of 3,798 m (12,461 ft.).
The capital is Innsbruck. The town is known for its university, especially the modern techniques in medicine. Tyrol is popular for its famous skiing resorts, such as Kitzbühel, Ischgl or St. Anton. Other larger towns are Kufstein, Schwaz, Reutte and Landeck.

If you want to know where to go or what to do: feel free to ask me. It is to much to put it in this review ! Tyrol is the best place for hiking, skiing and cycling. I feel as if it is my second home country and I just love it. I am sure you feel the same as soon as you have visited it !!!

Our last stop for Austria was at a little town called St. Johann. We stayed at an Australian Pub called Bunny's, but in an adjoining three-storey traditional Austrian house (which for the most time, we actually had to ourselves as they weren't very busy). So it was nice to get away from our often loud fellow backpackers, although our cheeky Australian bar staff threatened to creep in in the middle of the night and freak us out by walking back and forth on the creaking floor boards!

So, Steph dove head-first into the local alpine culture, or rather, dove head-first out of a plane! After several hours of pre-jump nerves by the Queen of Worrying, Steph had an awesome experience skydiving over the alps and there was no need to worry in the end, especially since her instructor, Freddie, is a TandemMaster, with 14,000 jumps under his belt including 6 guinness world records!!!

Other big news in St. Johann - the good weather had FINALLY arrived...I was beginning to think summer was a myth! Thus with a picnic in our bags, Steph and I set off on a countryside bike ride, with two Aussie chicks and Matt (our favourite ever tour guide!). He is an Aussie from up north, and an absolute legend! It was so nice cruising through the hills, past farmers yielding crops in front of pretty Austrian farmhouses with their flower lined balconies. Sadly for me, I still had The Sound of Music soundtrack repeating in my head from Salzburg! "High on a hill was a lonely goat herd..." We ate our picnic by a mountain encircled lake, then for the second time in my life...I drank beer - 2 of them!! Even worse, after a tipsy cycle home, including an impromptu ride through the equivalent Burnley tunnel, the pub had put on a free keg for the world cup, so there went another 2 glasses! I never thought I would drink that much beer, although everyone agrees that European beer is amazing, so I suppose even my dislike of beer has its limits!

We had a chill-out third day, on a roof-topped cafe in the sun we sipped the whipped cream cappuccino's that Steph loves! Ok, I do too... This was all in preparation for our fourth day of...CANYONING!! It would have been rude not to pay our respects to the beautiful Austrian mountains by jumping, slipping, sliding and abseiling down freezing waterfalls! It took a little convincing for Steph to come (we had heard about the Contiki canyoning disaster), but in the end, it was me that was a little scared when we jumped off a 10 metre ledge into a 2 metre wide target!!! Steph went wild, and just kept wanting more...more and more jumps! It was great fun, and will definitely try and do it again.

I had a great time in St. Johann and was very sad to be getting on the bus.
