Krems is a very green, relaxed town at the foothills of some of the more distinguished wine growing farms of the country. The town has a very ‘ye olde towne’ feel with a delightful cobblestone main street prefaced by an old town wall and clocktower archway.

Austrians aren’t usually particularly outgoing or friendly people but there is a slight and welcome change noticeable whenever you get into the countryside...

There was a summer carnival on in the Stadtpark (Town Park) while we were there and it was a great chance to sample some local schnapps, wine, foods and have a crack on the air rifles and some rides.

It was pleasant weather and the town had a very vibrant feel to it.

We drove up into the hills overlooking the town and into a couple wineries where we stole a few grapes and enjoyed the rally style driving through the tight and twisting roads.

From here we continued our journey west...
