down the road from Bicheno heading towards Port Arthur we passed some
of the most stunning scenery Tasmania has to offer. Only we didn’t know
it before we came to Tassie, therefore did not allow enough time to
visit the area. We did allow for a short hike though so did get to see
some of the scenery. So a word of advice from me, spend some time
looking around the Coles Bay/Freycinet Peninsula area, it really is
stunning, to see it properly you need to allow for a couple of days to
do the Freycinet Peninsula Circuit.

Not
too far south of the town of Swansea, we came across a sign for Kate’s
Berry Farm. It was after lunch and the sign said ‘ice-cream’ and we
were in the mood. Wow, what a discovery! This little berry farm didn’t
look like too much from the street but the produce sold here is
absolutely delicious. We had our ice-cream
outside while enjoying the beautiful view and playing with Kate’s
little dogs, then went back inside and bought some of the most
scrumptious jam I have ever tried and a bottle of Strawberry Wine, all
made by Kate using all her own berries. Our visit was the wrong time of
year for the fresh berries, but that didn’t really matter.

As all roads lead to home... we decided to keep heading to the East Coast to see if we could get our Lobster for dinner. Last time dad had driven this road he missed seeing the Spiky Bridge. I had never heard of the Spiky Bridge so was happy to have a look. Before the bridge though, we stopped for ice-cream at Kate's Berry Farm. I had visited Kate's the year I toured around Tassie, but dad had never been. As I was still eating my ice-cream, dad offered to drive the short drive to the Spiky Bridge, giving me the chance to take some photos out of the car window of the stunning clouds hanging over one of the small islands dotting the coastline.
Unfortunately, we missed seeing the shack where you can buy the lobsters fresh out of the ocean, so kept heading south back to Hobart where we made last minute plans to go to one of Hobart’s best seafood restaurants, Mures on the pier.

A true Tasmanian treasure. Kate’s Berry Farm should not be passed by; just south of Swansea on the east coast you can buy scrumptious creamy ice cream, juicy jams, and mouth-watering wine and of course fresh berries, all home made by Kate using the berries grown on the farm. You can sit outside overlooking the rows of berries and across Great Oyster Bay to The Hazards Range. Kate who also works the gardens designed both the cellar door shop and workshop, and produces Strawberry dry table wine and a Strawberry Riesling blend. This was one of my favourite food stops in Tasmania for the produce, the fantastic view and relaxing atmosphere with the dogs running around outside hoping for you to drop your ice cream so they could clean up after you.
