Trevelín is a town founded by Welsh immigrants. They still teach Welsh here and they have nice tea houses where you can have high tea with lovely cakes and breads. We stayed in a cozy hostel, in a room with a great view. We stayed here to break the long distance between Bariloche and Puerto Madryn. Now Puerto Madryn will only be 10 hours traveling instead of 14 hours.

We hired two mountain bikes at the hostel and cycled to the waterfalls and watermill. It’s advisable to go early cause at noon the wind will blow harder, just like in Bariloche. The surrounding is really stunning, mountains with white peaks all the way. After visiting the waterfalls it was already noon, we tried to go further to the watermill, but the wind was blowing too hard, so we returned to town. It was around three o ‘clock and the restaurants were closed down town. So we decided to go earlier to Esquel to eat there and then catch our bus to Puerto Madryn. We had a great dinner of Argentinian steak and good red wine, with a full stomach we slept well in the bus…

In this small, beautiful town, you have many things to choose from: you can have a great time just walking around on a weekend, going to the town plaza, which is big, full of trees, which provide shade if you need it, and its in the centre of the town, so its very easy to get to. On Sundays there is a craft fair in this plaza, where artisans from the area come and sell their goods, from necklaces, to knives, cakes, ceramic pots, leather things, wooden things, etc. Everything is of the best quality and beautifully crafted. If youre hungry you have some chices of restaurants, although not that many... There is Patagonia Celta, one of the best, on the road to the Old Mill, situated in a gorgeous place, sorrounded by trees, and nature. El restaurant del Indio is located next to the plaza, they do good food, and becomes sort of a bar at night. If you visit this small town, you cannot miss the traditional Welsh tea and cakes, specially the Black Cake and cream Cake from Nain Maggie Tea House. Other welsh related things include the Molino (mill), where a small museum operates, and also one of the FM radios of the town. If you happen to go there on the winter you can go to La Hoya, Ski center, which is just 40 minutes from the town. You can rent the equipment in Esquel, and can even get a bus which brings you up to the centre. If you want you can take a day to visit The town of Futaleufu, in chile, since is just 40 km, 50 minutes away to the south-west, go and come back on the same day. If what you are looking for is nature you have many options; The Nanty Falls, at half an hour southwards, Sierra colorada, where you can go trekking, The Lake futalaufken and the Futalaufken Villa, specially nice in the summer, you can visit the Lake Rosario, Go fishing on the Rio Grande, on your own or with touristic companies, rent quad bikes, or bicycles, or, even better, horses, and take one of the many trails to different places. There is even a cinema in town, which operates in the Salon Central, The Central Saloon, which is again, located next to the Plaza, on weekends, and usually has two movies, one for kids and one for adults. In this Saloon there is often Music concerts, such as strings (Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass) from local music schools, Choirs, Traditional Argentinean Music, (Zambas for example), and are usually free. There is also a Dam, where you can go to the top and observe the landscape to one side, and the lake on the other. If you are lucky you might even see when they open the door and let water flow freely out, a spectacular event. The river flowing from this dam is perfect for bathing, its got many big rocks from which to jump into the water if you wish, or lie down on and sunbathe. The people are always friendly and willing to help and everyone knows everyone, so you will always find someone to help you find whatever you need. You wont spend much money visiting this town, since the Peso, The local currency, is so devaluated at the moment. For example, a meal in a nice restaurant, wine and desert included, will probably cost something like 30 to 50 pesos, which is something like 15 dollars, and the same for accommodation, 15 to 20 dollars. I recommend this town very much, If you get the chance, visit it!

Awesome place, very cosy and warm, the people are super friendly, and its a great place to share experiences with other travelers. Also it has a great view of the whole city, its fairly close to everywhere and they offer really good activities, specially Kayaking.
